If you lead your partner to believe you are being faithful and loyal and do the opposite then it's wrong.
If the other partner knows that you will be seeing other people then it is not cheating. It really just comes down to if you're being honest about your intentions or not. If you have to lie about anything then clearly you're doing something wrong.

I'm in the "open relationship" category. Some people are built for monogamy, but many (perhaps most) are not. Best to keep things safe and honest and fun.

Yep exactly nothing wrong with non monogamy as long as it is agreed by both parties but cheating is very wrong. As for most being non monogamous i doubt it most people are monogamous the majority of people in the world do not even cheat once in their whole lifetime. only 25% of women cheat in there life according to the study i have read and that is in there whole life so if they have 10 relationships in their life even if they only cheat 1 time in 1 out of the 10 relationships they still get added to that yet only 25% for women and 40% for men. Of coarse society pressures us to be loyal as well but still if we were truly a non monogamous species you would think more then 25% of women would cheat at least once in there lifetime especially considering i's pretty easy to cheat just once and get away with it. Of course some stats differ but the study that said 25% for women and 40% for men seemed to be the most comprehensive study i have read even the ones with higher numbers says 50% of people cheat at least once in there life considering that include people have only cheated once it's safe to assume 99% of relationships going on in the world at any one time will result in both partie staying faithful to there partner. I still wish cheating was much more rare then it is ut still be faithful is by far still the norm. Also open relationships are very socially acceptable in areas that are not super religious yet even in those areas the overwhelming majority of humans still get into monogamous relationships. Most species are not monogamous but a few are and our species may just be one of those few species. Biologists are split on this some say there is no reason for our species to be monogamous and others have come up with biological theories as to why we are a monogamous species we can probably never know for sure but imo we are more likely to just be a monogamous species then a non monogamous species.

In the animal kingdom when they say an animal is monogamous they mean it mates for life: one partner forever and that's it. If we're applying animal standards to humans then the vast majority of humans aren't monogamous.
But even within our society's definition of monogamy, that 25% of women and 40% of men are cheating despite extremely high social costs and a strong moral narrative against cheating. It's safe to say that if those costs and narrative were removed, cheating would become more prevalent than it is now. My guess is it would rise above 50%, but that is only a guess.
Also open relationships are very socially acceptable in areas that are not super religious yet even in those areas the overwhelming majority of humans still get into monogamous relationships.
Even in places where it's more accepted there aren't any cultural or social role models for open relationships. From fairy tails to movies to books TV shows, the only relationships that are modeled are closed and monogamous, with a few rare exceptions. Even people who accept open relationships in others tend not to see it as an option for themselves. I can't tell you how many times people have said to me "I'm glad it works for you, but I could never be open." Often this has come from people who had cheated in the past or would go on to cheat later.

Very interesting point, and you're absolutely right. The open relationship status often brings up instant likening to being swingers etc etc

Any answer but 1, 4 and 6 is pathetic. Yes men do have urges to spread our seed that does not justify cheating tho. I am a man yet i am not incapable of being loyal so that excuse is bullshit just because you have psychical urges does not make you incapable of being faithful cheating means a LOT. As for number 3 that is also nonsense it depends on the person some people prefer monogamy some do not there is nothing wrong with non monogamy there is something wrong with having your partner think youse are in a monogamous relationship then cheating on them. Considering monogamy is the norm in our species unless you discuss whether you are in a monogamous relationship or not then it's reasonable to asume youse are both expected to e monogamous to each other. As for it being unrealistic that is ridiculous i can stay loyal to 1 woman my whole life in fact i prefer that i would be devastated and heart broken if i got cheated on. Even if she asked for an open relationship so it wouldn't be cheating no way in hell would i accept my woman getting sexual with anyone else in fact even if she said she will be faithful to me but i am allowed to fuck other women i would still not want to do that i only want and need 1 woman. As for 4 yes you should do that if you don't want a monogamous relationship bring up an open relationship if she says no then the only 2 options you have is either break up or stay loyal/faithful to her for the rest of your relationship or life assuming youse stay together for life any other action makes you a piece of shit. 5 is a scummy thing if you truly love someone and care about them you wouldn't be disregarding them and disrespecting them like that not to mention you always have a chance of being caught no matter how good you think you are the fact someone risks losing there partner for some sexual pleasure shows how little they care about and love the person not that being caught should be the reason you stay faithful it should be because you love and care about that person. As for 6 it's definitely something you should consider have a long hard think and see if you are truly capable of settling down and not just for 2 years then cheating on her or dumping her so you can fuck other girls You should ever get into a monogamous relationship with any other attitude but i wil be loyal/faithful to this person for the rest of my life and possibly spend the rest of y life with them. Nothing wrong with non monogamy but there is something wrong with cheating, cheating can really destroy someones life possibly even end i suicide being madly in love with someone then being betrayed by them can be absolutely heart breaking and devastating you should take into account the girls feelings as well not just your own Personally from what i have read from you i would say you are not ready and you should not get into a relationship with her or break up with her if youse are already in one then spend a few more years going around fucking hot girls until you are truly ready.

Thank you for your detailed response, and please understand there is a large element of devils advocate in my post.
When reading your post, one question that springs to mind is why are you (presumably happily married or long term) on Seddit?

Cheating seems so unnecessary in a world where it is socially acceptable for men to be sluts. That being said, I have no respect for dishonest and/or disloyal people.

I think moral principles are detached from the game. You come here to learn how to pick up women, not how to be a man
monogamy or polygamy? that´s on you to decide. You choose to be a dick or an honest man (I mean a dick by cheating, but I´m not against open relationships). You do you man, don´t try to find excuses over here about whether or not cheating is ok. Be your own man and own the responsibility of your own actions
