This is a risk you take by having sex. Most can be prevented with a condom. Many can be easily treated and few are of any lasting consequence. HIV, genital warts, and Herpes are the dreaded ones but can be reasonably prevented with condoms.

Aside from mandatory measures, im a fan of smoothly saying "is there anything I should know about?" If she was waiting for an opportunity to tell you, this prompts that. Oh, and I try to pull girls that seem at least somewhat classy, not that-that necessarily guarantees anything.

I quickly started to wonder about the risk of STDs, and found myself turning down opportunities to sleep with girls I'm attracted to, because it seems like a numbers game that I'll eventually lose!

Yeah..... it's a risk, even with a condom. I guess it just comes down to what kinds of risks you want to take in life. You could die tomorrow while walking down the street: life is a risk. (Though the most common STDs aren't usually fatal unless you're an idiot about how you take care yourself.)

Personally, I'm not going to take unnecessary risk but on the other hand, I'm not going to spend my life avoiding the fun in life just because there is some risk.

Perhaps you could cut down on the one night stands and cultivate longer term FWB situations. Those would minimize the risk and the sex tends to improve each successive time you stick with the same partner. -shrugs-

This is not a side of game that I ever hear discussed. Anyone have wisdom to share?

It is, but usually only on the side: like someone will comment on threads about other things. Though I have seen a thread or two dedicated to this. They seem to pop up every couple of months.
