I’ve never liked myself, and have always put on a mask as a means to get by in social situations.

I won’t go into detail, but as a kid I experienced a lot of rejection and bullying, so over time I relegated my behaviors and interactions to what I thought would get me either success or indifference. The result is that I don’t actually know how to be myself around people.

Some would argue that I should expose myself, while being myself, around women and learn that it’s OK to be polarizing. My therapist suggests putting dating on the back burner entirely until I figure this out.

Conventionally, I’m not a “loser” - I’m in shape, have a six-figure job, and own a condo. But I still think I’m a loser who should blow his head off.
