My advice is to "don't hold back". How can anybody/girls know how great you are if you hold back? Say things you normally wouldn't in front of people(within reason of course) they may just surprise you and be interested in the same things you are. I've learned that you can't just wait around for people to initiate contact with you. You need to start the conversation, if they don't respond well, then that's on them and now you know who to not waste your time thinking about. Hope you found my advice useful, good luck!

I think an important starting place is meeting /people/. Make some friends first so you can get used to the nerves of approaching strangers before adding on to those the nerves of approaching strangers who you're attracted to.

Make the effort to socialise and keep appointments, even when you don't feel like it. It can be surprising how social interactions can snowball (ie you go to one party and get invited to 2 more).
