Don't focus on trying to slow down, focus on having longer pauses.

Btw, it helps make you more attractive but it is also better for stories.

Makes them more engaging and exciting.

But the real key isn't fast or slow speech.

Its unpredictable speech patterns.

This means that if you pay attention and work on pausing more you will almost instantly become a more engaging speaker because you won't be able to pay attention to how you talk all the time.

There will be times when you're not paying attention and you do speed up and then when you catch yourself you're gonna slow down.

And that's good. That's better than always speaking fast or always speaking slow.

The reason why speaking in different tempos gets you more attention is because its less predictable.

When someone has only one tempo its boring because you always know what to expect.

But when no one knows how you're gonna speak at any one time, all of a sudden you're very interesting to listen to.

Your voice is only projecting your beliefs

You have to face your insecurities - go ahead and be boring, don't try make em laugh.. Just be boring, slow down. You can do it perfectly already with women you don't like, give it time to surface

All it is about is valuing what you have to say more than what others will think about what you have to say. Once you make this switch, which will take time.. your voice will project it, it will project self assurance

She's the woman, not you - she should be doing 70 to 80% of the talking. (And I know we've all heard the statistics about women on average using way more than twice the number of words in a day as men. I find it pretty fascinating that so many men get dating backwards in this regard by sitting there blabbing away about their accomplishments or their thoughts, etc.)
You facilitate her doing most of the talking by asking her questions about the kinds of things she would love to talk about. "So, who's the funniest person you know; who makes you laugh the most? Really? Well tell me a story about them!" Or "So what's the most fun you ever had...(on vacation; at a wedding weekend; in college)" Fun, positive, light conversation - no heavy, serious topics. Ever heard the saying "Girls just wanna have fun?" How much fun is anyone having if you lead her down a conversational path of talking about all the exes that trashed her emotions and made her feel worthless. *Pro tip: the emotions a woman feels when she's with you are the emotions she'll associate with being with you. Understanding this is part of the reason my lady said to me early on, "In just two months, you have made me happy more than all the guys I knew before." Start developing this "facilitating her doing the talking" aspect, which involves much less storytelling or anything by you...and thus will minimize issues of how fast you talk while telling stories due to being nervous.
