If you cannot come up with a genuine smile there are some hacks you can use.
David Wygant suggests if you are talking to a HB imagine her masturbating to you and screaming out your name. This is sure to bring a smile to your face.
I find what works best for me is to think of some funny past experiences and this usually makes me smile. Also, recalling some of the things I saw earlier in the day on the r/funny subreddit often helps.
Of course, your mileage may vary!

I always wear a light, relaxed, calm smile, no mather what I do or where I am. So far, it's been working great. Most people (not only girls) see that as self-confidence. Sets you apart from all the stressed-out people you usually encounter in the street. I hardly understand why anyone would recommend against it.

I always wear a light, relaxed, calm smile,
I like it as a general rule. But always is too much. You're human and supposed to experience a wide range of emotions. If you are always the same it feels fake. Girls want to know you, at your best and at your worst.
The other day I was unshaved, tired and annoyed. Out of habit I opened a door and held it for a girl to pass before me. Her face lit up, and responded with a gorgeous smile. The reaction is usually good in any case, but sub-communicating that you can handle your shit, keep composure and still be attentive to others during bad times, is very powerful.

well tip number one, don't smile if you aren't actually enjoying yourself... even an idiot can spot a fake smile from miles away and I can tell you that fake smiling just makes you look dumb.

What PUA theory are you reading that espouses not smiling?

Never have i heard (or read) David DeAngelo stating you shouldn't smile. Not laughing at your jokes trying to seek for approval, yes. But not smiling? Wouldn't make sense.
Skip DYD. David DeAngelo's material seriously improved with time. Go for his more recent ones.

I usually smile when I talk but not when you listen. If you smile when they are talking it seems like they can say no wrong and you will agree with them no matter what. Makes you seems less genuine. IMO.

Smiling is a great way to get girls to notice you. If they smile back, they're ready for your approach.

Also, if they don't guard their chest their reaction is authentic. [Take a look at the body language book]

i've read lots on body language. the best way to see if your approach is being accept is if their feet are pointed at you.

That, and if the arms are crossed or not. [IMO that makes sense...according to "What everybody is saying" that indicates an openess, arms or items infront means protecting the front]
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 15 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
arms crossed is a very obvious sign of disinterest, but i rarely get this in a club setting. if you do get this, you're obviously getting blown out. but in my opinion, most people won't do this just to avoid seeming rude.
the feet are a much more subconscious indicator because people don't consciously lie with their feet like they di with their face/arms.
[–]MonkeySteriods 0 points1 point2 points 15 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
True... like the engagement ring I have a hard time noticing the feet. I have noticed a few times about the arms.
I find it incredibly difficult to actively observe body language when I'm talking/listening to the set. Any advice on that?
just be aware of it. most of the most obvious signs are a form of movement, like the "hair flick." you'll notice that once one person does the hairflick, more will start doing it in the competition for attention.

Mystery suggests...
Smile when you approach. Of course; you aren't there to scare them away.
Quit smiling after you're hooked. You're not try hard.
