I notice that when I speak normally my voice seems to be more high pitched (not in a weird way, it's just not particularly attractive). I seem to be talking using the upper part of my throat?

But if I consciously try to use the lower part of my throat and straighten my neck I can get a much deeper, masculine voice out. This is my default voice when I have a cold, or when I just wake up, actually. I think society perceives this to be more attractive as well.

But it's hard to do this by default. Is there any way I can use this type of voice all the time subconsciously? What exactly am I doing different anyway?

PS - if anybody knows I am also curious about how this works, biologically speaking
