I think you're right. Given the overwhelming odds of there only being one "me" and millions of potential girls I could sex that are actually clean with no herpes, why should I choose her.
Simply put, do you think if she was who she was, without herpes, and you had herpes, do you think she would want to sleep with you regardless.

The overall percentage of survey participants who reported having been diagnosed with genital herpes did not change significantly between 1988-1994 and 1999-2004 (3.3% and 3.8%, respectively). However, among those who were HSV-2 seropositive, the percentage reporting a diagnosis of genital herpes increased from 9.9% in 1988-1994 to 14.3% in 1999-2004 (P = .02). The percentage of persons having been diagnosed with genital herpes increased among those infected with HSV-2 only and among those with both HSV-1 and HSV-2 but the differences between the 2 surveys did not reach statistical significance (Figure 2). In both 1988-1994 and 1999-2004, persons infected with HSV-2 only were significantly more likely to report having been diagnosed with genital herpes than those infected with both HSV-1 and HSV-2. In 1988-1994, 6.6% of those infected with both HSV-1 and HSV-2 had been diagnosed with genital herpes compared with 17.2% in those infected with HSV-2 only (P = .001; Figure 2). Herpes as a virus, yes, prevalent. Had a buddy have herpes of the eye and he's never even kissed a girl. Herpes as a sexual infection, which is what I was assuming we were discussing here, is less prevalent.

Herpes is herpes caused by either hsv-1 or 2. It generally stays at the initial infection site, that being face, genitalia or other body part.
So if you plan on kissing and having sex with your partner you're exposed to the full range of herpes.
Kiss a women with oral herpes, you risk oral herpes.
Perform oral sex on a woman with genital herpes, you risk oral herpes.
Receive oral sex from a woman with oral herpes, you risk genital herpes
Have piv with a woman with genital herpes, you risk genital herpes.
It makes absolutely no sense to differentiate between genital and oral herpes. Unless you don't kiss at all.

I see what you're getting at. If we're getting as highly specific as we possibly could with this conversation, then my final word is this--if a girl comes up to me and she says she has herpes, I'm assuming two things...1) She has genital herpes, and 2) She is currently symptomatic. I don't want that. But that's what we're getting at here is genital herpes. That's the stigma of herpes, is that when it's genital, its a big deal to tell a sexual partner. I have a hunch that if she just has a cold sore on the inside of her lip, I don't think she would go around telling every dude that she has herpes. See where I'm coming from here? I'm going off the info provided in the original post, so if this dude has found out she has herpes, then its probably not cold sores he's hearing about. Also if he hears this and then proceeds to go online and ask a seduction community whether he should proceed, then I'm guessing he is highly hesitant about STDs. Which if he's the least bit worried about this, then simplest answer is to forget the girl, feel good about not engaging a girl with herpes, and go get another girl that he does not know has herpes. But thanks for the lesson. TIL a lot of people have the herpes.

I do see what you're coming from and it's shared by many but as you might have guessed not by me. I do realise that when most people say "herpes" they mean genital hsv-2 possibly also genital hsv-1
I apologise if I came off a bit harsh, I'm just a bit tired of this oral/genital divide. Even though I've got the "common" oral kind, I'm well aware that I can transfer that to someone's genitalia and then all of a sudden it's the "bad" herpes.
In actually take comfort in knowing that at my age almost 80% of women already have it. The only problem is that only 20% of those know it, leaving about 60% of them potentially rejecting me because I've got herpes and they think they don't.

Just to reiterate, 80% of those with HSV2 don't know they have it. People seem to be very concerned about the 1 person that knows it and is doing something about it than the 4x more people that have it but don't know it.

Right, what I was getting at was the original dilemma brought up by OP. The fact that he knows this girl has herpes bothers him, right? So if that is ultimately his sticking point, and knowing that apparently everyone has herpes, then wouldn't it be best for OP to just go after girls where there is mystery around this fact? Seeing as the knowledge of her having herpes is what is stopping him or making him hesitant

Depends on multiple factors. Do you see her as a fling or something that could go further.
Your age also plays a certain part, the older you get the more of your peers have herpes. By 20 it's estimated to be almost half, by 40 you're looking at 70-80% so you're more likely than not to get it at some time in your life. Since 80% of those with hsv don't know they do and if you haven't specifically gotten tested for hsv (its not a part of a standard std test because it's too common) you might already have it.

Condoms do NOT protect against herpes.
Do not spread false information.
HSV is spread via Viral Shedding and exists on the skin (hands, lips, genital area)
Even a blowjob from somebody who has a cold sore (ORAL HERPES) can result in Transmission of herpes and end with you acquiring Genital Herpes.
There is no 100% protection against herpes other than 100% avoiding contact with somebody who has it, and even then you could accidentally pick it up by sharing a drink or a cigarette.

Since you are concerned about spreading false information...
The only way to 100% protect yourself from herpes is not to kiss or have sex (oral, PIV, anal) with anyone until you have an STI test that includes HSV at least 4 months from their last partner. 80% of those with HSV2 don't know they have it and 55-70% have HSV1 and probably aren't going to say anything before you kiss them since most people have it.

Yes, I could have gone further and said "talk to your partner, find out if they've been shedding/outbreaking recently, and avoid those times" but shit, if the partner has been living with it, THEY ALREADY KNOW THAT PART -- but if they're not communicating when they're at high risk, avoid them!
Also, yes, women can also pass viruses without having any symptoms. But female-to-male infectivity is estimated at less than 5 percent of the rates of male-to-female transmission.
"How can I protect myself from genital herpes if we keep having sex? While no prevention method short of abstinence is 100% effective, using a latex condom offers some protection. Your partner should tell you when symptoms flare up, which is when the virus is most contagious. Avoid sex when your partner has symptoms."

Idk man.
Things that MAY help:
Don't shave with a razor. Just use an electric one to cut it short.
Wash with sope afterward.
Don't eat a lot of arginine. And take some L Lasein.
Those may help lower the risk.
If you use a condom and she has no sours, and you have not cuts on your pelvic region, I don't think you would catch it.
But I realy don't know.
