One on one vs one vs a crowd is different.

The crowd generally doesn't talk back or isn't expected to talk back. In the case of one on one you feel as if you are not the leader as you are in the one vs a crowd situation.

Don't worry man, it's just a person. She isn't a special snowflake and neither are you. We are just a warm body on this little blue planet trying to enjoy ourselves.

Her job is to reject you, your job is to talk. You are taking away her job. Don't do that. There literally is only one downside. That is if you don't do anything, you lose that chance. All other outcomes are more positive than doing nothing at all.

You live once and the moments you give up are gone forever. Stop letting them slip by. This is a game of almost infinite chances until your time is up and then you are dead.

There are no quantity of chances, only the time in which the chances are available.

Grocery store situational: "What are you looking for?" "What do you think about this cereal?" etc. What discipline, by the way?

You're worrying too much on the approach, JUST DO IT (Nike, registered trademark). Seriously. A lot of talk on here suggests to not care, and I find it to be valuable. If you can just get into a nice, natural conversation you'll notice you didn't think of ANYTHING regarding your approach.

Oddly enough, I'm completely the opposite of you in terms of speaking. Have no problems talking with people, generally making an ass of myself, etc but the second I need to present something professionally I simply get worked up and nervous.

You don't need to know what you're going to say - in fact, thinking about it is BAD. Just go up to her and start talking about random stuff.

I had HUUUGE approach anxiety when I first started. After your first conversation, some/most of it will be gone.

Stop thinking, just do it. :)

I like my situational openers.

If she's fumbling with her purse: "Wow, I'm glad I'm not a girl. Then I'd have to deal with having a purse".

Even something simple like "You're tall" has worked for me in the past.

Opinion openers are great conversation starters. "I was having an argument with a friend. If we were stuck in the zombie apocalypse, would we need a car to survive, or could we make due with a bike?". "Which decade created more nostalgia? The 80s or the 90s?".

Contrary to what people are saying here, it's better to have a planned opener or to concoct an opening line before the approach. Awkward silences don't get rid of themselves.

Worrying about approach, so don't worry about outcome. Don't expect much. Take the worry about how you're gonna sleep with get out if that's what you think pickup is for.

You have the knowledge but not the want/hunger. Do it because you want to, rather than do it because you know what to say.
