The key to not being needy is to be just fine alone. Girls can sense this through your actions - double texting, fast text replies, agreeableness, etc.

So a couple of weeks ago I went on two dates with a girl that I liked a lot. After the second date, she became a lot more distant and she probably decided hat she didn't want to see me again for whatever reason. She would respond to my texts but at long intervals. Basically she was fading on me and trying to be polite, she even agreed to loose plans but flaked.
Anyways, what I did was text her something like this: "hey, I had a good time on our two dates, let me know if you find some free time and want to see me again. Otherwise, good luck with your job!" (She had just started a new job).
I was 99% sure that she wasn't interested before sending this message, but what it does is express your interest without seeming needy or desperate. And, if she changes her mind then I've made that easier for her.
But overall girls don't play games like this with guys they like so it doesn't really matter at this point.

Thanks for that. She did flake on our first meet up so I took the hint, but it was weird. She came so hard at me and then POOF like a ghost.

This is a classic example of why you need to have an "abundance mentality". Girls sense when you are thirsty and no offense dude but you sound pretty thirsty.
Why where you talking about your issues with D in the first place? That did not help your situation (although it's not exactly a killer either).
You are most likely reading too much into everything. Wait a day or two then text her again. Don't do coffee. Coffee screams friend zone. If your old enough grab drinks with her. If not do something a little more fun than starbucks.
Just text her, "Hey, sorry i've been busy lately. I'm going to xyz bar (or whatever) tomorrow at 10pm, you should join me".
If she doesn't respond. Just leave it. On to the next one.

Thanks for your honest response. Constructive criticism is something I used to shy away from and take it the wrong way, but I know its meant to help me improve on myself.
And I didn't think of myself as thristy, i just really wanted to befriend her as I dont really have a large social group at all, and wanted to expand on that. I guess you can say I was interested, but I wasn't head over heels with her. She weirded me out about the "getting drunk together" moment and I just start talking to her.
I will take your advice about that text tho. Seems like I will get closure with that.
