This is a bit of an esoteric topic, that's tough to describe, but I figured I'd do my best here... Hopefully once I point it out for you, you'll be able to see this dynamic happening all around you, especially in people who are very charismatic, like "naturals" or movie stars, or successful business men.
Don't get hung up on the word "intimidation." It has negative connotations, but it's just a word, the concept is what is important. Most people are only familiar with the one side of the coin, which is overt intimidation (durr.. because it's overt and obvious)
Overt intimidation is an aggressive bullying, domineering behavior that involves physical/verbal force. This is not what we're talking about.
Subtle intimidation is non-aggressive, implied, and "subcommunicated" psychological force.
Teddy Roosevelt summed up SI beautifully in one statement, "Speak softly and carry a big stick."
It's the Paradox of Power: If you have power, are ready willing and able to use it, you never have to.
Being the boss of the company, for example, is subtle intimidation; you don't have to make the employees be respectful. They just are, because of the implied consequences.
Wal-Mart, Lowe's, Home Depot's giant stores are a form of subtle intimidation.
Think, for example, of how when someone learns a martial art, they rarely if ever, get into fights any more... they don't have to say it, or show it off, or go around OVERTLY intimidating people. It bleeds off of them as a "vibe" that other people can sense.
It's mostly in the voice, body language and how you carry yourself. A stellar example of it is Tom Hardy in the movie Lawless. I highly recommend watching him very, very carefully... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDg5MvJnsgU
Subtle intimidation, is non-aggressive, like Aikido or judo, which means "the gentle way." SI actually prevents conflicts. People fear what they don't know, what isn't given form, more than what they do know. Nobody ever gets into a conflict that they think they will lose. No country starts a war when they're not sure what the other is capable of.
There's a branch of criminology that studies how criminals choose their victims, and it's basically an absence of Subtle Intimidation... IE "exploitability." Read this: https://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/200901/marked-mayhem
Notice how chodey guys have little SI about them, therefore they get walked all over and women basically disregard and disrespect them. And they are always the targets of the dudes using overt intimidation.
How does this concept help YOU in social situations?
1) It keeps other dudes from messing with you, trying to AMOG you or screw up your sets.
2) It helps prevent women from outright rejecting you. In fact women love it when you have this quality. It's something they need to see from you.
3) It builds your self-confidence when other people treat you with respect, instead of walking all over you.
How to do it: The best way is to build some sort of "power" like a martial art, hitting the gym, starting a business or something NON-GAME. Slow your movements down by about 50%. Build "SI" into your body language and speech. Even your writing style.
Work on projecting that subtle vibe.
