This is something that happened to me years ago, when I was around 17 years old. I used to play videogames at an internet cafe with friends. The IC was run by one guy whose hot sister-in-law (let's call her Lisa) used to work at the (sort of) cash register. We all knew Lisa but no one did anything further than small talk with her. She was (not by much) older than me.

Anyways, I've always been very outgoing and fun, but back then I used to have a lot of anxiety when it came to hot girls, and was way too afraid to approach.

However, For some reason one day I was giving zero fucks and as I was paying for the use of the PC, I jokingly told Lisa "So do you like dancing? Maybe one of these days we could go dancing or something". She didn't say much, but I just went on to play videogames.

When I finished, I went back to Lisa to pay a few extra hours that I played, and I couldn't believe what she told me:

"Hey, about that dancing thing you told me, here's my number... Let me know when we can go out" as she gave me her phone number on a piece of paper.

I froze right there. I think I just nervously smiled with an OK, turned around and left. That was the first time something like that happened to me.

The interesting thing is that back then I was very thin, didn't really dress that well, etc. And for some reason, she thought it was a good idea to go out with me.

Thinking back, I'm pretty sure I stood out from the other guys in that place by just asking her out without any expectation of the outcome, because I was not being really serious about it.

She probably gave me her number because I was confident, even though I didn't take care of myself like I do now. She probably thought "this guy is confident enough to ask me out... There must be something worth spending time with him after all..."

I never called her. I was too scared and had no idea what to do next, or where to go, honestly. But that doesn't matter much... What matters is the lesson that I now get from this interaction: just take action... There's a huge chance that by doing just that you're already better than the rest of the betas who think that by being too nice they'll miraculously get her attention.
