I just want to thank you, my gf broke up with me on my bday in may, and it's been rough (i got my knee fixed so 6 weeks at home, put on a ton of weight, got depressed and so she left me) and it's been a rough couple of months), i read your story and it helped me today me, i went to my friends softball game and they had some friends there also, so i m just doing my thing playing with a random dog post softball game and one of the girls of the crew kept looking at me, and i was like hey stop looking at me it's weird, and we started talking. Then i made some space to talk to other people and we happened to more or less leave at the same time, in the same direction so i caught up with her and just chatted her up, she kept bumping in to me and touching me as we were walking) and accidentally held my hand and put her hand in my hand sadly it happened on my street so i had to leave. I told her maybe i will see her at the next softball game she said maybe...
I know i dont have my full game back, cuz i should have done more banter by teasing her and calling her a stalker and teasing her abs saying u should pay me to hold my hand.... but i m not 100% my self yet, but this made me wanna go back out there and try even if i know this story with this girl means nothing. So thank you, and please share more positive game with details i find it helps better to actually know what line a guy used than what "type" of line to use.

I also don't like Peterson very much. He tries to come off as this public intellectual, but he's more of a conservative pundit spouting your typical "traditionalist" talking points crossed with a motivational self-help speaker. He comes off to some as more insightful than he is because he is soft-spoken and non-threatening, unlike your typical Fox News talking heads. But his rhetoric is pretty similar, but with some Freudian and Jungian psychoanalysis (which doesn't even hold much currency in mainstream psychology due to largely being unfalsifiable) to sound smart.
Though I don't like him, if somebody's life is improved because they took some good advice from him about cleaning your room and trying to control your actions and all that, that's perfectly fine with me.

I lost a lot of respect for the guy after looking more into where he drew influence from (especially Jung, the guy was a complete nutcase that followed tons of bullshit and his methods where anything but scientific.. and Peterson see's him as this almighty genius.) And then he takes this completely unnecessary swan dive into theology as it obviously holds THE key to demystifying the human condition. And then he brings up his arcane knowledge as if it's something that's supposed to be in the common core, and of course his followers eat it up and drum up his pathological tangents to 'genius'(lmao). It's just a ton of stories compiled by our ancestors (AKA people like you and me).
Don't even get me started on his completely unnecessary and dramatic political stances.. And his followers treat him like he's a God damn disciple, it's actually kind of revolting, because you know these people are at a low point in their lives and as such they're the most vulnerable types to his bullshit. He's just another Tony Robbins, except for guys that think they're too smart to fall for that kind of shit.
Think for yourself, find what you need, don't be a follower. Not going to lie, this guy sets off my psychopath alarm.

There is absolutely value in his work and he’s extraordinarily intelligent, but what you said is precisely my view of him. And I’m not opposed to a lot of what he says. As I mentioned previously, I’m not politically liberal, though there’s clearly a couple people on this thread who think I’m pushing liberal propaganda onto OP.

Could you elaborate on the whole radicalization thing? I understand he’s had run ins with people of opposing political views but he honestly gives awesome advice about masculinity and confidence during his lectures that have helped me many times.

The problem is that he might give some good advice, but a lot of the philosophy that's baked into the foundation of that advice, doesn't stand up well under scrutiny.
That Zizek vs. Peterson debate was pretty telling.
One telling instance was in regard to Peterson's rebuttal to the idea of systemic change being necessary in a political or economic system, that "one needs to tend to their own house first before changing the system."
Zizek pointed out that it's possible and often even necessary to do both, rather than having to choose.
He cited the ridiculousness of telling someone in North Korea to get their own house in order when it's even impossible to do so because of the system there.

The content you’re talking about is fair game and there’s definite value in there! (EDIT: You don’t get to be a Psych professor at UToronto without knowing what you’re talking about.)
The content I’m referring to is his “intellectual dark web” material where he sees crossover with—usually hardline—political pundits (e.g. Ben Shapiro) and philosophical minds (e.g. Sam Harris and Daniel Dennett) that he’s a complete mismatch for. His “debate” with Zizek is a perfect example. A Canadian Psychology Professor with a knack for metaphysics debating an Eastern European, Marxist social critic was a show I knew I could miss without feeling bad about it.
He often throws his hat into the ring for philosophical, religious, and political arguments that he very evidently knows very little about since he seems to approach any and every conversation from a metaphysical angle that can’t be defined much less argued against (EDIT: see his definition/argument for God in his talk with Sam Harris, for example). That tactic alone leads people to believe he’s so far beyond anyone arguing against him that he cannot be beaten which in turn leads viewers to think any stance he takes is correct by default. He gets a lot of blind loyalty from that.
There’s nothing wrong with the psychological lessons he can teach someone about being a man, but his work’s tendency to build unconditional trust in his viewers and it’s proximity to extremely questionable right-wing, political communities is what makes it dangerous stuff. I’m not even liberal politically, but I’ve observed a lot of this (firsthand and secondhand) newfound obsession with Peterson and the negative political mobilization it can cause.
