Really its about making yourself into the best "you" possible. "Being yourself" is important, but you also must make that person into something worth being around (develop your intelligence, humor, charisma, professional life, etc).
EDIT: All the stuff above takes time. Something you can do immediately is to improve your outlook, which is also a very attractive quality.

the thing that matters most when talking to potential women is confidence in yourself. you dont need to pretend to be someone your not, just that you are comfortable with who you are

Being anything other than yourself is a sub-optimal strategy because you will turn away the people who would be interested in who you are normally, and at the same time you will attract people you feel uncomfortable around and who can see through your lack of authenticity.

Upvoted because I know what you mean. And I'm glad that you've improved. I'm also glad that you like seddit and understand the underlying, fundemental principles of "game".
However, every time I see another "be yourself" type of post I just shake my head. "Be yourself" is the same worthless advice that AFCs get for years from the girls who have put them in the "friend zone." "Being yourself" is what gets them into the "friend zone" in the first place. They need to become more interesting and more dynamic.
You also say "work on becoming a better person". I agree. But again, that and "improve inner game" are so vaugue as to be completely worthless. You don't teach somebody martial arts by telling them "be a better fighter." You give them techniques that they can practice and refine.
As much as people often dismiss seduction "techniques" as creepy or hokey, they almost all operate on solid, underlying social engineering principles. For many guys, the techniques are absolutely critical to becoming that "better person".
Does that mean they'll be running "the cube" for the rest of their lives? No, probably not. But they'll know how to have a captivating conversation and say and do things that spark interest.
Anyway, off soapbox.

I originally joined this reddit for the the lulz. I've seen some proper creepy stuff posted, some moronic stuff posted (I kinda include the glossary of terms in that) and some really useful stuff posted.
Your post is probably one of the best things posted. Not only because it's true but because it's not full of this alpha / beta tripe or abbreviations like DHV or HB. It's just simple, honest and accurate.
Downvote away if you must..

I've been into the "seduction community" since I was 15 and subscribed to Cliff's List. I've written a lot of words regarding seduction over the past 7 years.
And I've never used a term like "HB8" in my life.
Too many people come in as unappeasable skeptics and scorn the easily-scornable shit. I probably would've done the same had The Game or VH1's Pickup Artist show been my initial insight into the community. All the acronyms and over-simplifications still nauseate me sometimes when I see them misattributed thus misleading guys trying to break into the community. I think our own attempt to organize and symbolize large concepts into small words can be a source of discouragement for a lot of guy.
I can only imagine how often the misunderstanding of the "neg" has fucked guys up.

Actually changing your core self, as opposed to the 'self' you project for others is the best way to be happier and more successful with others.

In other words, Be your BEST self.
To just "be yourself" is to be the status quo.
