Alright, so just a couple things.

Kissing is a delicate tango of lips. Don't suck his face off like you are a sloppy vacuum cleaner, but don't be prudent either.
Tongue action is about exploring each other's mouth. You don't need to be punching, high-fiving, or trying to reach the back of their throat. It's a dance you do with each other's tongue. Don't suck on his tongue either, unless they are into that stuff.
Hands go where ever! Guys usually hold the face. But if you really wanna make a person feel good. Use your hands like you are caressing the most beautiful piece of art you have ever touched. Run them all up in down their body. Stopping occasionally in comfortable embrace positions. Don't have stiff noodle arms, but don't be all over the place, it's about moderation on the hand movements (some examples, running hands down their sides, their back. Hands on the neck and cheek. Grabbing of thighs, etc)

Don't think about it too much.

I fucked a near-virgin recently (I think I was her second pretty sure) - she wasn't too experienced.

I think the biggest downfall of inexperienced kissers is this:

They just lunge for the face, tons of tongue, all forward and aggressive, no give and take.

I mean sure, be horny, but part of the enjoyment are kisses without tongue as well, holding back or pulling back some time, ebb and flow. You know keep it a bit intimate sometimes instead of just "tongue wrestling" constantly.

Other than that, just do what you want, see what the other person likes (hopefully this advice applies to both genders). If they do something to you, they usually like the same thing back.

That said he might be someone inexperienced too, sounds like.

Either tell him what you like, or show him. Most people "catch on" if you try to slow down the kissing a bit.

I'll address the question as it relates to hand placement. Just keep in mind that making out is foreplay to sex, and as with any sex partner, some guys will like certain things more than others.

So, for example, I love it when a girl puts her hand(s) on the back of my neck and caresses my ears. I also enjoy it when they put their hands on my chest. If you're standing up while making out, the waist or ass is another place you can put your hands.

Best advice I can give: keep practicing.
