First go for something quick to eat... eating together makes a bond and enhances trust... dont go overboard with a 3 course meal and dont do mcdees... go for anything with nice relaxed surroundings... maybe pizza hall or something...

Then go for something where you can escalate with touching... something physical and fun like pool or ice skating or something... anything where you have an excuse to touch her or her to touch you ;-)

make suggestions to her on your plan for the night and then ask her if she agrees or has her own ideas...

On the payment usually I pay the first date unless I sense its not going to go anywhere. The second date if we do something similar ill say "ill get the pizza if you get us the shots at the next place..."..etc... make it like a joke as if you like to be treated and has nothing to do with the money... in your case say ill get the pizza if you buy me an ice cream later because i like sweet things... blah blah

most of all though just relax and have fun. With most girls its the fact that they are out with you thats the treat not where or what they do for the evening.... also remember they want to be touched as much as you want them to touch you.. but not in a weird way ;-)

I was thinking of catching a movie

Don't. As you already said you can't talk in a movie. It's good material if you've been seeing her for a while but it sucks ass for first date.

Treat her to a nice evening in the park, at a lake or similar. It's about as romantic as it gets. And it's free.

If weather makes that impossible a good (cocktail-)bar is hands down the perfect "standard" place for a first date for so many reasons. No doubt about it. Make sure it's a good bar, though. Drinks need to be nice and cheap, music needs to be appropriate (as in fitting her taste and yours) and not too loud and ideally you want couches. This is going to make your game a hell of a lot easier trust me. Oh and yes a good bar has tasty non-alcoholics, too.

Also curious as to payments....

This is easy. She pays her shit, you pay yours. Don't think for a minute you're supposed to pay the girl for dating you. We're not in 1930 anymore. Those days are over. That said, don't be anal about it. You're young.

If she starts nervously fumbling her wallet over a $3 drink, pay it. Make sure she appreciates it, though. Don't fall for golddiggers.

Dinner is an awkward date because you're seated opposite each other the whole time, and are watching each other eat. Just a bad idea.

How about going to a cafe and bringing a game with you? Scrabble or something like that.

As for paying, if you invite a girl out on a date, you should pay, especially on a first date. If money is tight, then pick something cheaper, like playing board games at a cafe.

So mixed opinions on the payment. Ill take the movie out of the options then, at least until another time if we see each other. We both like sushi. Perhaps we'l go get sushi and just hang out, go for a drive.

Since it's really our first proper time actually talking face to face (party was a while ago and we were both pretty drunk) I guess it doesn't need to be anything special. Just really a taste to see if we like each other's personalities.
