When pulling people together and trying to be a "social connector," I always find myself struggling in talking with large group of people. Two problem occurs, its usually:

  1. Everybody already knows each other in the group, you feel left out because the bond people already have with each other, so you sit back quietly.

OR

  1. Everybody is really different and have very little common ground. I'm usually great 1 on 1, but trying to get the ball rolling with such different people in the group is more difficult. So everybody just ends up being quiet and awkward (I always found that people love to talk, so I usually create conversations that highlight a person, but when in a group, that strategy conflicts).

So do any of you guys share this problem? Any suggestions/tips?
