I don't think there's any general advice that doesn't work in the UK. I am NOT a pickup expert or guru, but here's what works for me:

Dress WELL and differently- I usually have an eye catching shirt on (think pop art style or with a funny picture or quote) OR in a turtleneck with a small chain (I love those!). Get a haircut or shave. Nice shoes. You don't have to break the bank for any of those. Just dressing well is gonna boost your possibility of attraction.
Have FUN and positive vibe - Do your best not to get stuck in your head. If possible go with friends who you can have fun with. A fun positive vibe is going to rub off on others.
Approach - you won't get anywhere if you don't approach multiple women nightly. I have a few lines that work FOR ME - but these are not rocket science to make. I think your intro should be INTEREST and different without being "WEIRD". No canned openers unless you know that they work for you.
SCREEN FOR INTEREST /Availability- if a woman isn't interested you'll know in 5 minutes or less. Keep moving if they are not. ALSO if a woman is there in her own it usually means she's dtf or at least available for that - so I'll observe then move in.
