What are some key differences between boyfriend material and FWB material?

tried to explain this to a girl (36) once on reddit. Her post was that she couldn't do FWB relationships. "each time she tried she fell for the guy" So after a few exchanges I determined that she was picking her Ideal life partner traits in every FWB relationship (correct age range/race/etc). I suggested she start seeing guys that were 19-20. She came unglued saying she was repulsed by the idea etc etc. My point was she could have all the sex she wanted and that there would never be the chance of an emotional connection. She was totally illogical in her reasoning.

Be upfront about your intentions and feelings. If you don't want things to be super serious, say that (at the right moment, obviously). Either she will agree and you're good to go, or she won't, in which case you're not leading her on anymore and you can focus on somebody who better suits what YOU want. As far as how to behave in a FWB situation, I would say just keep it casual, don't start really emotional conversations, and don't text too often unless you're trying to meet up.

If you want to come across as a guy to be used as a penis and nothing more, these are some things that come to my mind at the moment: don't demonstrate high value or provider-like qualities (don't cook for her, don't tell her how financially stable you are, don't talk about future family plans, don't go shopping with her, etc); keep things sexual with innuendos, dirty talk, dirty jokes, etc; tend to her emotions and stuff, but don't be too nice/supplicating; don't do couple-y stuff (don't stroll on the beach, don't go on ferris wheels together, etc); don't contact her too much, and try to have sex every time you get together in person; don't let her sleep over; explicitly disqualify yourself as boyfriend material

FWB and Bf are both guys who the girl connects with on an emotional and physical level.

FWB are the guys who the girl can't see a future with. They're their for fun and companionship only, not for the long run. They're held to a lower standard than a Bf and certain relationship deal breakers are often acceptable since the relationship isn't really a relationship.
