When approaching a group should you ignore, focus or isolate the target?

You shouldn't be looking for a one-size-fits-all solution. Because things happen that are outside of the box, ALL the time.

But as Linistmrx says, those three things kind of go together. But I'm going to get picky about the word choice.

You don't need to "ignore" the girl you're interested in, but if she's in a group, you need to approach the group, basically. Or else you'll be ejected by them. So you need to be observant as to what's going on in order to have meaningful things to say when you strike up conversation with them.
Focus makes it sound like you ignore the group later. And while you certainly ought to find ways to demonstrate your interest for that girl, which could be called "focus," that doesn't mean you should necessarily ignore the group. You may find that you have to continue to juggle both the group and the girl.
"Isolate," makes it sound like a one-sided affair. But....... A.) If you just show up to some group and try to pull a girl out of the group, you'd have to have some experience to do that without setting off all kinds of red flags and defensive responses from the girl and her friends, and B.) "isolating" her cooperation. If you guys start getting along, she'll be an accomplice. It's not as if you have to trick a girl to get her alone.

Old pickup methods used to ignore first, focus and then isolate, but you can just approach the entire group, win everyone over but making your intentions clear to who you want, then isolate.
