You may remember me as the guy who posted in AskSeddit a couple months ago, telling a tale of woe. https://www.reddit.com/r/askseddit/comments/3d5r78/seddit_wrecked_my_shit/ if you're curious. Basically, trying to come to terms with my atrophied seduction/flirtation skills sent me into a psychological meltdown, which turned me into a bad caricature of what the general public thinks a basement-dwelling Redditor is.

I'm not entirely recovered from that by any means. But, tonight, being bored, I decided to bite the bullet and fix up a long-dormant OKCupid profile. I found good advice on /r/okcupid and in this post (https://www.reddit.com/r/TrueReddit/comments/1vsyl0/how_a_math_genius_hacked_okcupid_to_find_true_love/cevt3es?context=1) and replaced the fake pic with a couple halfway decent ones actually of myself. My reason for not fixing my account had been a lack of good pics, but eventually I just said fuck it and went ahead.

I literally got messaged by a girl before I was done fine-tuning my profile. Not really my type, and young...but not unattractive, and she flat-out told me she thought I was cute, and we had a good conversation over chat for 30 minutes. I had previously had a profile on OkC for 4 years and never gotten a single response. Why? Because I said the wrong shit on my profile. I was self-demeaning, over-serious, and strident.

OK. I surrender. It's amazing how a little step like that can wash away a million anxieties. A belated thanks to y'all who posted material to this sub. It took me a long time to accept I even needed help. Actually improving feels really, really good.
