A phrase I really like that pertains to discarding old beliefs or thought/behavior patterns that no longer serve you is something like “you’re under no obligation to be the person you were 5 minutes ago.” Though I like to adapt it to “...the person you were 5 seconds ago.”

You can identify things you were mistaken about or things you’d like to change and flip the switch just like that, if you give yourself permission. People want a consistent narrative about who you are, so they’ll try to box you in. But it’s up to them to catch up, not up to you to keep them updated.

I like seeing this; I seldom agree with most posts on this subreddit, but this one resonates. Once I stopped trying(and often failing) to live up to other ppl's expectations & ideals of me and started focusing on what I want for myself, life got so much easier & more fulfilling!

And yes, some will say, "Umm, wow, that sounds incredibly selfish..." but I've learned is a little bit of selfishness is NOT wrong. In doing so, I now know who I am, what I want and have the courage to go for it. Actually, one of my passions is helping others with self-awareness & improvement, something I failed at miserably BEFORE I loved myself.

I get what you are trying to say and it is a great post, but I can't help but notice you misused the word supplicate. Supplicate: "To ask earnestly and humbly of."
