For me/him… I painted the room, the color of his choice, before he moved in. I hung LED lights, which Mom had a big problem with. Let him pick out his furniture. Went appliance shopping with him, ect. Let them chose things they like, and make them feel involved. Best of luck.

I’m about to move out and have kids half the time. I love this question. Idk what to do but I want to make it FUN and comfortable for them.

Don’t be afraid to make new house rules. They are hard to install but within a few days of sticking to them it’s easy.

One good rule is we eat dinner at the table together with electronics off. It’s even been good for me to turn a precious football game off in favor of some chat.

The kids feel pride in the house if they help keep it clean. For starters they need to clean their own rooms.

One kid can clear the plates, throw scraps in the trash, rinse, and set in the sink. Another kid can take out the garbage. I give my 7yo kid allowance here and there and keep it at my house along with birthday money etc. So when we go to the mall or whatever she can spend her own money at Claire’s.

We read together in bed every night. Not sure about the 12yo but it’s a very special time for my 7yo.

If you can swing it get each a really nice piece of furniture. I splurged on a loft bed that makes my kid’s room awesome. School book fair has good posters. Fun little LED lights, star projectors or sticky glow stars, and a canopy net on amazon are really cheap and very fun.

If they have tablets or whatnot figure out the parental controls. Many ways to do it but I just remotely shut down the tablet or block YouTube.

I have 5 daughters and I just made it a point to let them decorate their rooms exactly how they wanted it (LED lights, clouds made of cotton, etc) and tried to listen to how they viewed the new space and adjust as best I could. Also let them bring some of there stuff from old house so not everything was new. 6 months later they are pretty content I'd say and see it as their home.
