Schrödinger's Douchebag: A guy who says offensive things and decides whether he was joking based on the reaction of people around him.

How many of us have been on the receiving end of a disgusting or insulting remark, only for the person to backpedal and claim it was "just a joke?" It seems negging attempts thinly disguised as jokes have replaced lame pickup lines in the current dating climate.

Guess what, jokes aren't immune from criticism.

Yes, the more famous comedians out there are known for edgy and offensive humor. But what Tinder amateurs don't seem to understand is that these are comedians with solid reputations and audiences. The random douche on Tinder doesn't have those things, only a basic understanding of pick-up tactics and a truckload of social anxiety. Hell, throw in a budding porn addiction too.

Comedians know how to read the room. That's why routines are best done in a club as a special event. Not as random one-liners on a street corner. The passers-by have more important things to do than entertain your act, just like women on a dating site.

A good stand-up routine is also meant to make the audience laugh, not the comedian. If you tell a joke and you're the only one laughing, you're the one who fucked up. You don't get to go off on the audience for not laughing at your jokes when you were going in blind.

And outside of any comedian comparison, you have to wonder why anyone would find such things amusing. If they didn't, why frame them as jokes?

So no, insulting a woman and claiming it was a "joke" doesn't redeem your comment.
