Hello, I’m new to FDS (joined because some single female friends have mentioned they’ve found it helpful and I wanted to know what they were talking about) and agree with most of the rules/ideas here but am hoping for clarification on one part. I read the handbook and tried to find this in posts, but sorry if it’s been asked before and I just missed this.

I (23F) am in a happy relationship with a guy (23M) who so far seems to have mostly shown green flags (he does most of the housework including the mental work required to remember chores, actively supports me in my goals, and he’s very affectionate and loving with me.)

We’re in an exclusive serious relationship, but when discussing the future both of us have stated that we can’t imagine getting married to anyone soon. I’ve seen posts here of people my age (or younger) getting married, but honestly I still feel so young and like I have so much to figure out about myself as an adult before I can even imagine making such a big commitment to anyone else. He feels the same way. We’ve both said we can’t imagine getting married until we’re at least 25.

So my general question: how do you apply FDS when you’re not ready for longterm commitment either? A lot of the posts are around expecting a proposal within a year and watching for that sign. I’m not ready for that step yet, but I also don’t want to waste time in a relationship where he might never make that step. I posted this question in this sub because I imagine this advice might be more generally applicable beyond just my case, but I’m definitely happy to move it if another sub would be a better place.
