They can be empatethic if they want, but they can turn it off with you as son as its convenient if they want as well.

Reality check - that's the way leases work. The lessee is committed. You may be able to defer payment till times improve, but it is still owed. Letting a tenant out of their lease is not a trivial matter for many that live in part off of the rental income, not to mention there is probably a mortgage that they have to pay along with property taxes and insurance.

An acceptable solution would likely be for you to produce an acceptable tenant to take over your existing lease. Nothing sounds 'crazy' about this situation. You always have the option of only committing to month-to-month tenancy if that's what you'd like and it's being offered.

This is the case whether landlord is male or female. The situation presents a valuable lesson that one must be fully aware of what is being committed to when signing a contract. Simply requesting the owner donate $6k or more to make one's own life easier is not a reasonable request. However, if the lease you signed does not include an obligation to pay what is being demanded under the current circumstances that would be different and you should prevail in court.

Imagine a reversed situation. You finish your training and get a job that supports your lifestyle. Then the employer informs you that business has been slow this past month so they want you to forego receiving your paycheck - probably wouldn't go over real well with the shoe on that foot..

However, agreed that females generally lack the degree of empathy found in males.

A few months ago I watched interviews on Fox Business about people abandoning their leases in San Francisco.

I was both sad & funny to me watching all these old Boomer landlords bitching about the situation. These guys had gotten so used to hitting people up for $4k+ a month in a high demand region. That it's not registering with them that those days are over.

When the state is locked down and no one working their tech jobs, no one has rent money. If you're not going to let them out of the lease when they say they can't pay they're still going to leave.

I was talking this morning with other people and this woman decided to intrude and talk non stop about how men are evil and women are more empathetic etc.

They only play empathetic when there's something they can gain from it (virtue signally, attention seeking). Once there's money to be had they are fucking ruthless. They won't even round down a penny out of empathy.

But you're going to have to probably pay because someone in college, especially a man, is not going to be able to play the 'i didn't understand what i was signing' argument. A lease doesn't care if you were there or not unless it said you don't have to pay for those months. MAYBE you get a sympathetic mediator that will argue that covid fucked you, so there is a little hope.
