7 years is a bit too long for alimony. The only reason I'd understand alimony is if the woman wasn't working at the time and you gave her some safety net while she looked for work, but that doesn't take 7 years, maybe a few months at best.

That's what the law should be about, not about forcing men to raise an adult child for an indefinite period.

Talk to your lawyer. All it would take is for her to say "he is only a FWB" or "He only spends 1 night a month here". And you're screwed. I know you think you were amicable with each other but I guarantee she will lie to keep that money rolling in.

Idk how it can possibly take your ex 7 years to get back on her feet... Especially if your child is grown and so she doesn't need to be a stay at home mother or anything.

Beware. I had an agreement like this… then 10 years later she files with Calif saying I haven’t paid anything (they even give her a state lawyer). Of course records don’t do back that far (20 years) but I dig some for last 5, proving her filing fraud… she refiles saying paid those 5, but zero for the est… nope still owe for 15. After digging and talking to the bank/PayPal get 5 more years proving fraud again… same cycle no consequence for her. So I’m on the hook (due to outrageous interest) for 1.2 million. Settle for 400k… retirement destroyed. We were on good terms, but I have a young, beautiful partner now and that pissed her off. And to young folks… the fact they’re labeling MGTOW (simply not wanting to give your resources to women and focus on yourself) toxic tells you it’s the right path

The way divorce is set up in America is they usually price it just about what it would cost for a good attorney.

Like if your alimony is 100k, attorney charges 50k and it's 50/50 chance, is it worth it?

At least with alimony it stays in your family. It goes into the mother's bank account, and if she dies then the child gets it. That's what I mean by "it stays in your family."

Especially if the mother is smart, she invests that money, then your child will inherit it.

But if she is a stupid hoe and only spend money on herself, then alimony is flushing money down the toilet.

All the more important to be wise about who you marry and who you stick your dick into.

If you marry someone who is wise, and you pay alimony, they put the money into crypto or investments, then your kid will be rich when he grows up.

These are long-term calculus of the economics of marriage.

Marriage is a business decision.

Sometimes the wife can earn more than you, and you can benefit from that.

Back in the old days when a woman went to college, they used to call it "getting her MRS degree."

The idea is since she has a degree, she can support herself and you have less liability for divorce, but if she is broke and has no job then she is taking %50 of your shit.

Her getting the degree indemnifies you against torturous fees by the state.

What is the difference in income and income earning ability? Alimony is bullshit and don’t agree to shit because even if you do all she needs to do is have some wine with her bitch ass stank hoe friends and she will file and fuck you up with Family Court dysfunction mercilessly.

Wait till she is broke and decides she needs more child support or that she can’t sustain a life without alimony.

The first lawyer told me “alimony is like lube do you want to get fucked with or without it.” Well I got out with 6 months but you don’t think she didn’t figure out the child support angle?

If she is educated but lazy take it to her with court filings and have a lawyer who will put the kibosh on family court shenanigans. Show no weakness. She will exploit it. So will her lawyer. Can you relocate to a state with presumptive shared parenting and stay with family? Put your house up for sale. Don’t think for a second doing right things by her will matter if she decides to shift her narrative. You are in the best position now to prevent the silver bullet.
