This is why nobody trusts science.

Last year they tell us to eat a restricted calorie diet to live a long a healthy life, because it keeps your body in repair mode, versus grow mode, keeping cancer at bay. And they have evidence.

Now, "even moderate caloric restriction may not extend but, on the contrary, can shorten the human lifespan". And they have evidence.

Now, somebody, somewhere, f---ed up.

I have a science degree. I f---ing HATE science. There's no sense in that profession that there's any responsibility to maintain credibility of the profession as a whole. It's just a few thousands monkeys tapping on keyboards. They're just rely on the smug self-confidence that they have all the answers and everyone else is stupid. Well, when 70% of the universe (dark energy) vanishes like a rounding error, that's not smart. It's no wonder nobody believes these people on climate.

Calorie restriction, not necessarily starvation/fasting, extends lifespan considerably, in all animals I know about.

I always heard that periods of fasting/starvation were something most people that live over 100 had in common.

Not sure there is a connection between fasting and male lifespan. Otherwise they wouldn't have written this:

"Is starvation-induced telomere shortening a sex-dependent phenomenon?"

The correlation is between starvation and telomere shortening, not lifespan.
