There's nothing new here, it's been that way at least for the last 20 years when Mary K Laterneau was in the news.

The findings of the current study are positive and shed light on the potential advancement of the reporting of female child sexual offenders in the print media at an international level.

I wonder if this is linked to the increase of boys reporting female abusers, as well. Either way, it's good that society may be gradually waking up to reality regarding these matters

For my writing class I wrote a paper on the characterization of sexual violence in the media. I pointed out that female sexual offenders were never if ever presented as predatory, but either a victim of their upbringing or brought along for the ride by a predatory male. I went through like the first 10 seasons of Law and Order: SVU and there was less than a handful of solo female offenders.

I also cited a study that looked at the prevalence and circumstances of young teens engaging in sex with adults. The strict liability of crime aside, they looked at how many of each group pursued a sexual relationship with the adult and vice versa, and the average age differences.

It turns out young women were more likely to seek out a sexual relationship with an older man than a young man with an older woman, and the age difference was bigger for young women engaging in sex with adults than young men.

Of course of those who reported it as a crime the report rate was higher for young women, but it was so high as to question why so many pursued a relationship voluntarily. It was proposed that it was friends and family upon hearing of the relationship are the ones who likely reported it for young women, while for young men his friends and family would be more likely to celebrate the event than report it as a crime.

In essence, we thrust sexual agency onto men early and immutably, and infantilize women of sexual agency well into adulthood.

And feminism is doing nothing about it. If anything it's helping reinforce that paradigm.
