It's just one ad

In fact, the submission itself says "and another one linked at the article". It doesn't explicitly show a man hitting a woman, but it's two ads that only treat the woman as victim – and the implication is clear. Surely they could balance it out with one ad showing a woman as victim and another showing a man. That is, if they believed that men could be victims, too.

That one links to two more ads, one showing a soap dispenser filled with fake blood in a public restroom, which the poster concludes "men's, I'm assuming", because of the male hand using it. Again, the implication is clear.

There's another one by the Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence – official stuff. They probably have access to the official statistics that point out how DV is a problem that goes on mostly in violent couples, where the unprovoked violence is evenly split. And What does it say? Simply "Respect Women". Obviously.

And another. This time with kids, for extra shock value.

And another one. Even though it says "domestic violence", the message at the end is clear: "Stop violence against women".

Here's a montage made by a youtube user that it's less subtle about the point and even though it also says "domestic violence", it is really only about male on female violence, filled with fake statistics as well ("1 in every 3 women have been BEATEN or COERCED into having sex in their lifetime", etc).

Here's Keyra Knightly being beat up in the name of domestic violence. Where is the male Hollywood hotshot doing the same? The description box clearly states: "Domestic violence kills two women every week". So that settles it.

There's no question: Domestic violence == Violence against women. And I wish it was only in the eyes of the public. But every ad, from the most official sources, is terribly one-sided as well.

You think "I'm sure ads presenting the other side of the coin are out there, you're just not seeing them", when in fact we are looking for them. You thought it was evenly split because you weren't paying enough attention till now. It's not. In fact, I've got personal confirmation of it very recently.

So, it's far form being ONE ad highlighting a SINGLE example. Start paying attention.

It hardly ever is, even though there are cases where it does. The point is what ads like this do for public perception. When every thief and bad guy in movies is black, is it outright maintaining that blacks are EXCLUSIVELY the criminals? No, but watch movies like that enough times and that's what people's gonna start assuming. And that's what legislation will be passed to address. Like it is with DV and other gender matters.
