You said it's funny to piss of pro choicers. Thinking it's funny to piss people off is a pretty accurate definition of a troll. I'd say the irony is that even when banned you fail to see the problem with your comment.

Magdelyn is a real life troll...Read the blog. You're talking about a person who claims to be transgendered, yet posts pro-male superiority views regularly. Someone who goes out and pretends to be a prostitute for fun, and apparently has some sort of death wish with the situations they get into, either that, or a compulsive liar. Someone who clearly sees women as objects, and for soe reason, is attempting to become such an object. Someone who has openly admitted to wanting to invade women-only spaces on behalf of men.
He bashes the transgender community for attempting to fight for our rights, "whining" and "playing the victim" because we won't accept a place as the sub-human freaks that he seems to believe we're supposed to be, and bashes the therapists and doctors, probably because he had to jump through hoops to get hormones and the like because they were able to see he's not transgendered, but someone with other issues instead.

Are the masculine pronouns really necessary? Why can't my tranny sisters just get along :(

You have a lot of resentment to spew out and it's my obligation to listen to it? I don't think so.

What the moderator did in r/women was wrong plain and simple.
BUT you seem to be trolling in r/women? Could be seen that way a little.
And what the fuck is this:
Since I personally believe that psychologists are the chiropracters of the mental health world, and that most types of "therapy," both physical and (all) mental health therapies are complete and utter BULLSHIT, I don't give a flying fuck what the DSM V says. As for psychiatrists, they are only good for prescribing meds, and the vast majority of meds are either useless, or redundant with older, just as effective meds that don't happen to have patents on them. Fuck the entire mental health industry.

Understood but please remember that for every story of shitty therapists and horrible situations that people can be put through, there is a story like mine where a good and wise therapist saved a life.
Upvoted for your struggle.

I don't know about your (apparently) blanket condemnation of psychology, pyschiatry, physical therapy, etc. - but as a transwoman, I share your disdain for the system of therapist gatekeepers that stand in the way of us making intimate personal choices about what to do with our own bodies. I can't think of any other medical treatment that expects patients to internalize and perform a narrative of self-hatred before it can be accessed. To quote the applicable feminist mantra: my body, my choice.
Which relates I guess to the comment that got you banned. Well . . . I was definitely on emmster's side of that exchange, but I don't think it was ban-worthy. Not by a long shot.
I guess r/mensrights has thickened my skin a bit.
[–]emmster 5 points6 points7 points 16 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link
It wasn't just the one comment. We'd had our eye on her for a while. A lot of comments had been individually removed at that point, and she got swept up in weekly housecleaning.
[–]cryptogirl 5 points6 points7 points 16 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Well, you're in a better position to know what to do with your sub than I. Thanks for the explanation :)
[–]emmster 5 points6 points7 points 16 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Quite welcome, of course. We're not really evil, just trying to maintain a peaceful community. I'd hate for you to think badly, as I rather admire your comments.
[–]cryptogirl 2 points3 points4 points 16 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Oh no, I don't think you're evil :)
It's a bit of a fine line, but even while my general preference is to oppose banning and censorship, I also recognize that part of the beauty of this medium is that it allows for a diversity of communities to coexist, each with their own set of values and priorities. If someone has a problem - well - they can start their own subreddit. It's an elegant system filled with inelegant people, and it's working as well as (if not better than) could be expected.
For the record (at least as far as I'm concerned): flattery will get you neither nowhere nor everywhere - but it is appreciated :)

You wouldn't be the first. By all means, if it makes you feel better, go right ahead. I'm browsing from my phone at the moment, so I'll get back to you on the comments. Have a lovely evening!
[–]emmster 3 points4 points5 points 16 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
So, yes, back on the regular laptop, your list of comments does seem to about cover it. Notice how many of them are insulting to anyone who disagrees with you? That's a problem for us. See, about a year ago, I guess, we were losing subscribers in a big way. Just about all that was left was a bunch of people talking about how much they think women suck. You'd have fit right in back then.
We started getting messages from some of our readers, telling us how much they disliked the turn the community had taken, that they felt insulted every time they posted, etc. So, we enacted stricter moderation.
Since then, our subscriber numbers and the number of links and comments submitted has approximately doubled.
So far, of those banned for reasons other than outright spam, (and we do get an assload of spam) we've removed about twelve people. I think half of them posted about it here. Out of 6,000 plus subscribers, twelve people have been banned for offensive or abusive behavior. Two of them have since been unbanned.
My point being, go ahead and "report" me to whomever you like. I stand behind Crito's decision, as do the other mods. We do what we do, and take crap like this (and my favorite, threats of legal action) to keep r/women a pleasant place to read and post. And anyone, regardless of their gender, politics, etc. who insults other people and makes it an unpleasant place will be removed. It's as simple as that.
If you and the other 11 people who've been banned think that's draconian or whatever, please, feel free to start your very own competing subreddit. Last I checked, r/womenunmoderated is available. I'll even subscribe. Just don't be too surprised when your front page is full of headlines asking how to pick up women, pictures of women, ads for cosmetics, and discussions of how very much some people think women suck. Because that's what our banned posts page looks like right now.
tl;dr: I stand by this decision for the good of the community. Please, deal with it.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 16 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I should have read your comment first - you said it all already.
[–]cryptogirl 3 points4 points5 points 16 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
This should be interesting.
EDIT: Upon reading, I'm curious why you think your banning was so unreasonable, especially considering the post:
we trolls aren't invited...ffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
I checked the thread, and it seems that comment has been deleted, so I'm also trying understand why you think emmster's comment was untrue and defamatory.
PS - I'm not hating. Even though I mostly disagree with your politics, you're a monkey-wrench in the gender orthodoxy, and I appreciate that. Perhaps "troll" is just a four-letter-word for "agent provocateur" . . .
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 16 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link
You've made a defamatory statement that comments had been individually removed, and implied that they violated rules
Give it up. Defamation is a legal term and it's tied to your identity as an individual, not an anonymous internet troll. You're just making yourself sound more trolly and further justifying our decision to ban you.
The cross post to /MR in an effort to invite a downvote brigade is super classy too. You're not the first nor will be the last and you'll all be dealt with in exactly the same manner.
Feel free to start your own subreddit if you want. Your own self-hatred is transparent and palpable. It might be time to deal with that, ya?

Unfortunately for her, I am an attorney
Maybe in crazytown but you're still an anonymous internet troll to me.
But good luck with your defamation suit. I cannot wait to see how that unfolds.

but entirely predictable.

We know they ban dissenting opinion. That's why we strive to be better. I hope that a non-censorship mentality will attract more people to this subreddit.

Many moderators on the internet are power hungry morons.
I am surprised I have not been banned from /r/women yet. What the mods of that subreddit want is 100% preaching to the choir to make other people think that is the way it is with no debate. I say let in the debate. It gives creditability to the topics being discussed.
[+]ristin -7 points-6 points-5 points 16 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Sounds like they found out you were male. A bannable offense in /r/women, /r/feminisms and so on.
