Similarities & Differences between Egalitarianism, Feminism, and MRA

The first thing you need to establish is what definition are you using for those terms? Are you going by the dictionary definition, or by the in world actions of these groups? As in, feminism's dictionary defination is that of wanting equality for women. In actuality, they are a supremacist movement that wants female domination.

Men's Rights Activist is a descriptive term that describes a person's actions. Egalitarianism and Feminism are ideologies that describe a person beliefs.

A person is an MRA because they do men's rights activism, not because they say they are, or because they have similar beliefs to other MRAs. If a person tells you they are an MRA they are not telling you what they believe or that they have beliefs in common with other MRAs apart from the very broad belief that men's rights are important.

A person is a Feminist or Egalitarian when they have similar beliefs to other feminists or egalitarians. When a person tells you they are a feminsit they are choosing to associate themselves with other feminists.

Feminism claims to have come about in response to the patriarchy. The existence of a patriarchy, when assuming the feminist version of it (deliberate oppression of women by men), is debatable therefore the need for feminism (with its specific ideas about what equality means and what causes inequality) is also debatable.

The men's rights movement came about in response to feminism starting way back in the early 1900s when feminist reform of laws began giving more freedoms and privileges to women while maintaining and increasing responsibilities for men. The men's rights movement has always focused on the lack of equivalent rights given to men that feminism has secured for women (reproductive rights for example).

Although feminism states its mission is to achieve equality, when looking at feminist theory we see a specific version of what equality should look like (50% or more female representation in a majority of economically advantageous jobs, for example). The MRM's version of equality is focused on equality under the law.

Egalitarian - someone who believes in gender equality.

Feminist - Someone who sees gender injustice as a sufficiently one-sided issue that using the term "feminism" to denote opposition to it is completely appropriate. Or else someone who has no problem given tacit support to the large, powerful movement centrally based on that attitude.

MRA - Someone who sees sexism as involving an unignorable anti-male component which cant accurately or fairly be reduced to "patriarchy backfiring on men", and therefore advocates against anti-male sexism as a thing in itself.

Technically, an egalitarian could have either an mra-type view of gender equality, or a feminist-type view (without identifying as either), but the MRA view and the feminist view are irreconcilably incompatible with each other and the downstream implications of that philosophical disagreement are huge.
