It's an old idea: "Why are women always complaining about men being this or that when men are actually a picture of the female desire". And it's true to some extent. Two things come to mind, though.

During the eons of evolution, we lived in a very different kill-or-get-killed environment. What was good in a men back then isn't necessarily attractive nowadays - although certain general characteristics, like strong, stoic, and humorous, won't go anywhere.
If you read about hunter gatherers or nomads, it seems possible that men have been raiding neighboring clans for women quite regularly. In those cases women had little to say with whom they would like to have children.

While you have a point to an extent, I think it's a limited perspective. For one women (like men) have a wide variety of factors they select and aren't just one cohesive algorithm. Both women and men also had fewer options (and choice) back in the day than they do now. Also the unhappiness goes both ways. Men select partners then as the years go by tend to be as unhappy in relationships as women. I think at the end of the day humans are just complicated hopeless creatures you can't just apply logic too, and I don't think women are any more to blame for this than men; humans are going to human.

The only problem is that PEOPLE ARE DIFFERENT. There can't be any evolution if have different tastes. The other likes smart and sassy, the other smart and shy. While the other person doesn't like smart people at all. Your point of view is insulting to men and women. We aren't hamsters.

Society's expectations of men have become overly high. Many people of this generation and the previous one expect a man to be confident, 6 feet tall, have a six pack and have a house of their own by 18 yrs of age.

The expectations of men have been raised so far above what an average man can do that it seems futile to even try. A 20-something year old guy who has a car & job but still lives with his parents will get 100x more flack for not "living on his own" than a woman would. It seems that society is so hyper focused on beating men with the "man up" stick that they forgot that men are only human. Finite. A man can't infinitely "improve himself", that's like sharpening a sword until not even the hilt is left.

Even female V-tubers suggest that the key to getting a girlfriend is 1/3rd shower (half of all dating advice these days) 1/3rd confidence from nowhere and 1/3rd stability. How many men in their 20s still got dates while not being financially stable? Society seems content to place an ever increasing burden on men to be better while also treating men as a greater villain than satan.

All of this and where's the expectations for women? Wheres the expectation of women improving themselves? They expect a man to be mature when a good chunk of women show no more maturity than they had in freshman year of highschool?

What's funny is that modern women have loaded all the dating responsibilities onto men in the last century, yet there are letters and stories which reveal women used to flirt more than just staring or giving a backhanded compliment and expecting the man to do everything else.

Society's expectations for women have vanished while men's responsibilities keeps piling up.

There's one flaw in your argument though and that flaw is the historic (and most likely pre-historic) reality of arranged marriages. So it wasn't purely women's choices alone which men got selected and which ones didn't.

Sort of. Females exercise selection merely by mating with the victors. They don't actually select males themselves. They select by not selecting. In other words, if a rival defeats the male they previously were mates with, then they jump sip and mate with the victorious male. Because they have no loyalty, it is always possible to use force to take a female from another male.

Humans work the same, but they achieve these victories by working together with other men and then forming a pact to honor each others'marriages. So they don't steal mates within their group, and they are all stronger that way. It's much easier to analyze deer or elephant seals. Because they dont collaborate. Females simply "put out" for the dominant males, they don't actually select which ones are dominant. Men have to do that through competition.

"We have standards" or "I have standards" in the modern world just means casually sleeping around with 50 people who have good looks or top 10%. It could even be drug dealers or pure looks and things like that. Choosing the top 1% on tinder is not "standards." They're lying their asses off. It's a red herring, or a ruse, whatever you call it.
