How pathetic. Even people here seem to think Ellen's behavior is okay. The fucking definition of pussypass is the fact that the world will literally end when a man says something sexual about a woman, but when a woman/lesbian says it, its okay.
[–]mrcolon961 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link
This is bullshit lmao. Every trap/hip hop song forever has been about getting "bitches" and such.
Not long ago we had a song about rape hit number one on billboard (Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines) and the number one song right now is about "popping pillies and fucking bitches" (Post Malone's rockstar) so I don't know why y'all acting like Ellen killed your family and poisoned your dogs.
[–]1UMIN3SCENT 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Why doesn't the downvote button work on your comment?
I love Ellen, but her behavior really isn't appropriate nor is it fair to give her a pass when a man doing the same thing would get blacklisted by society. Comparing her behavior to the idea that pop songs are about sex is pretty ludicrous.
I don't think that pop culture is healthy, but just because it exists doesn't mean that I can't also think that Ellen is in the wrong here. Pull your head out of your ass and realize that two things can be wrong at the same time, they're not mutually exclusive events. Defending one wrong by saying "people do worse so shut up" is despicable.
[–]mrcolon96 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, no. Men aren't getting blacklisted for glancing at boobs, if anything; they're celebrated for it. And honestly I don't see anything wrong with either men or women watching someone's boobs or ass or bulge because that's exactly why you showcase it wearing cleavage, tight jeans or other revealing clothes. And the comparison is valid because constantly having degrading songs hit number one is a much bigger problem than watching someone's cleavage. You know shit is wrong when you have literal songs about rape, about cheating on your girlfriend, about objectifying women and so on being so mainstream and normalized.
Men are getting blacklisted for being disgusting, rapey and grabbing asses and tits, and Ellen isn't doing anything like that so fuck off. Plus Katy does seem comfortable with it. If she wasn't okay with it it would be different but she's obviously cool with it. Your whole "men can't look at boobs without getting fired" argument is false and you probably know it, so I'm gonna have to ask you to stop projecting and pull your own head of your own respective asshole and stop bothering me over an old comment which isn't even wrong.

Barren wasteland?
[–]MrBeeAreWhy 125 points126 points127 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
This is literally a lyric from one of Katy Perry's songs which makes absolutely no effort to hide that "big balloons" is referencing her boobs.
HOW COULD SHE

Self objectify. Disgusting.

Seriously people? It's Ellem Degeneres making a fucking joke about Kety Perry's tits. There is literally nothing here that could be considered predatory in anyway. If Chris Pratt or RDJ did this there wouldn't be any kind of uproar either, they are comedians.
[–]Av_navy20160606 13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I hate this, but intent does not equal impact. Just because someone is trying to be funny does not mean that they will be taken that way by others.
[–]iamonewiththecoloumn 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
No one took this the wrong way, it was a good joke. There was no negative impact. None of you are offended by this unless you are actively trying to be offended.
[–]Monsterzz 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think the point is that if a man did this, there would be a bunch of women taking it the wrong way.
[–]chubbyronin 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
None of us are offended by this, period. We're offended by the double-standard inherent in this.
[–]WGLT 60 points61 points62 points 8 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link
Why is this ok?
[–]MrBeeAreWhy 70 points71 points72 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Because it's a direct lyric from one of Katy Perry's songs which makes no attempt to hide it's about her boobs ("let me bring out the big balloons").
It's also a song about it being a birthday gift and this tweet was for her birthday.
[–]WGLT 29 points30 points31 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Seeeeeeee that makes more sense.
[–]ProgMM 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Also, "I Kissed a Girl and I Like It" is probably relevant somehow.
I'm not sure how, I'm damn tired. I just happened to remember that it exists and is tangentially related. If you come up with an argument from that let me know :)
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The only relevant argument is that if it's not okay for men it's not okay for women. #Equality
[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You failed to explain why it's ok
You and everyone with a functioning brain has the ability to recognize the point being made. Reverse the genders and it's not ok, therefore, this is not ok. Period.
[–]anonymous_troll65 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (10 children) | Copy Link
Because it's totally okay. What's going on now is a moral panic against men, not an outrage against sexuality; though, that's been an undercurrent in the American mindset for a while as well.
[–]WGLT 18 points19 points20 points 8 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
I don’t find it ok to say things like this about people’s bodies. Obviously I have no idea how Katy Perry feels about being objectified by a lesbian. I’m sure she’s cool with it. But as a man. I think it’s kinda lame. Especially because I do not objectify women. It’s disgusting to me. But that’s life.
[–]Brandwein 29 points30 points31 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
You do not objectify womens bodies? Strange dude.
[+]WGLT -9 points-8 points-7 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Really??? I love women. Think they’re beautiful but I don’t objectify them. Objectifying meaning making them a total of just their body parts. I’ve been called a lot worse than a strange dude for the way I act. So I guess I’ll say thank you.
[–]Brandwein 28 points29 points30 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Since its perfectly normal to look at other humans just because of their body being attractive or even jacking off to that, yea, its strange. But to each their own.
[–]CrochetCrazy 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think the distinction he is making is between looking at women and seeing them as attractive with an interest in who they are vs. women are only the bodies they inhabit (I.e. Objects)
The former is viewing women as a whole and the latter is viewing them as objects to be viewed.
[+]WGLT -6 points-5 points-4 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
That’s not what I would call objectifying a women. That’s completely different.
[–]Brandwein 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link
If you mean acting upon them as if it were a mere object, not just having fantasies, then, when in all serioussnes it can be wrong. Woman or man. But doing it jokingly isn't that big of a deal most of the time; like in the post. It's like insulting someone jokingly vs. seriously.
Interestingly i thought about if men when they catwhistle etc. really just see women as a object, and i don't think so, since when seeing appearance and behavior of other humans we always already interpret personality and other things that 'make' a human into the viewed individual. Further, one is attracted to that whole interpreted thing. If you argue the other way around, humans can't NOT objectify other humans, because others are always just a picture inside your head, a interpretation, not the real thing. One can not see others as a true subject, only himself.
[–]WGLT 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I mean as a social construct. We see things. They are objects yes. But I don’t degrade women. That’s all I meant. I don’t know why that’s even an argument. I wasn’t talking about what it means or how it’s possible. That’s all things people do to convolute the point. To make their point. So as to my point. I don’t just point at a woman and yell boobs or any other manner of this action. I was raised to respect everyone. That’s all.
[–]Brandwein 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Sorry, may have gone overboard arguing there. I just like to argue against the concept of objectification as its presented often nowadays. Nothing against you. peace.

Who cares?
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
So when a guy does it, he gets arrested. When a girl does it, it's funny.
I dislike Ellen. She's only famous because of her sexuality.

Fucking comedians trying to be funny! How dare they! /s edit: lol all the downvotes. bunch of prissy pants in here need their pass denied

Cheers to that.
[–]ProgMM -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The right can't meme either
Memes are best without politics, otherwise political big-shots will try to use them and they devolve into r/fellowkids pandering
[+][deleted] -24 points-23 points-22 points 8 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link
How is that a good comparison? They are all female. It would only work if there were 2 guys staring at someones junk and for some reason people had a problem with that.
This is pretty ridiculous. So no, he's not goddamn right.
[–]Pizzaface97 27 points28 points29 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Same things about guys and Dicks.
It’s funny to say they are small; it’s funny to say they are big. I’ve been at parties where humans have held bottles, pencils, thermoses in front of themselves, and called out ‘Hey look at me, I’m Mr. So-And-So Dick! I’ve got such-and-such for a penis.’ I never saw it fail to get a laugh.

[–]metaltrite 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
apparently none of you do considering one is a sexual orientation and the other a gender identifier
[–]gameplace123 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
How does that change the point that's being made?
[+][deleted] -6 points-5 points-4 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Yes, and what does their orientation have to do with anything?
[–]ProgMM 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
The logic is that a male celebrity staring at her "balloons" may well get backlash about his lack of self-control in the face of sexual desires. When someone says "it's okay, they're both women" some can take it to mean "it's okay, it's not sexual," since lesbianism is an atypical circumstance. People who see it that way see it as a gender-based double standard: "a guy into girls is a creep if he stares at boobs, but a girl into girls can stare all they want?!?"
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Even if it is double standards will always exist. And should they in some cases? If you see a woman singing I Touch Myself in karaoke or something it's way different than if you see a man singing it. Tell me you want to see that. That's just life.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
double standards will always exist
Which is exactly the underlying motivation of this sub, to point out the double standards. I can see the comedic value of a man singing Touch Myself. I can see the comedic value of the above photo too.
It's the double standard that's being created and enforced through media shaming that's the problem.
[–]AFlyingMongolian 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That’s not very equality of you
[–]sobersally-8 points 8 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
Shapiro is generally on point but I don’t think this is a very good comparison. Even if it was a famous male celebrity (ex George Clooney) staring at the nearly exposed breasts of a famous celebrity I doubt anybody would care.
[–]CrochetCrazy 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I agree that context is important. It's a problem when it's unwanted. It's not a blanket thing. We don't know the context of this. They could have planned this as a joke. As long as both consent then it's not sexual harassment.
