The words that we choose to say mean more than their dictionary definition. They are a reflection of our entire mindset. The way that a confident leader presents an issue is even more important than the issue at hand. Here are a couple examples.

Asking questions

The only questions I typically ask of are a factual nature: "What is an X?" or "Explain what you mean by X?" When it comes to soliciting opinions or making plans, I make requests: "Tell me what you think of X," or "We should do X."

Apologizing

I never say sorry anymore. Ever. When I make a mistake, I explain how I will correct the problem moving forward, but I never say "sorry" to anyone.

With only these two changes, I noticed much more respect from my employers, and some women have told me outright that they love how I never apologize and always take the lead when we make plans.

What are some things that you do to convey confidence and leadership in the way you speak and with the words you choose?
