So, I've had this girl for a while, we had history etc. We broke up and fucked again a couple of times which resulted in old and confused feelings coming back basically I got some fucked version of oneitis for this girl. Anyway, I've constantly been telling my friend that he can fuck this girl if he gets the chance since he always was rambling about how hot she were. He told me that he fucked her a couple of weeks ago. Although I felt like shit for 3-5 minutes, it turned around and I now I just don't care about her. I don't think that it had entered my reality yet that my ex as- any other heterosexual girl- is a fan of penis, so I had been carrying around this insecure jealousy in my subconscious. This ties in well with stoic principles about accepting what you cannot control and imagining the worst situation possible, and I feel stronger.

If any of you out there has a case of oneitis that can't seem to get rid off, tell your friends that it is OKAY if they fuck the girl, don't get angry at them if they do, and when/if they do the KEY is to experience whatever you are feeling at the moment, fully. Cry if you fucking have to. Afterwards you'll accept that you are not a unique snowflake, that people don't tread on eggshells around you to protect your feelings, it is quite liberating really.

The opponent-process theory explains this well; you feel great in moment the when you are hamstering about how perfect your oneitis is, but it only amplifies the obsession, it is an unproductive escapism- daydreaming if you will- that can only end in more misery. Doing the oposite thing however will only lead to a progress in emotional maturity, when you deal with reality you stop being CONSTANTLY miserable about something that does not matter in the long run, although you may feel intense discomfort/pain in the moment.

What is TRP's thoughts on this? Have you had any experiences like that?
