INTRO

For the past year or so, comfort/discomfort has been a recurring theme that I observe in TRP and in the real world. I believe that most humans beings are comfort-seeking. I always thought this was pretty clear on TRP, but when I saw a post in asktrp, I realized that it may not be as obvious to everyone.

For most of human history, man's relationship with nature has been rough. Human beings have struggled to hunt/grow enough food, build reliable shelter and infrastructure, etc. So it makes sense that humans have the tendency to be comfort-seeking, because it was imperative for survival to seek food and shelter.

The modern world is very different. Most human beings in the western world have ample food/shelter and always will. But our comfort-seeking tendencies remain, and this causes problems. I believe that, in our current state, it is better for men to be DIScomfort-seeking. This can be seen throughout RP examples.

EXAMPLES

Male Comfort-seeking: Overeating; staying in bed/playing video games/watching tv all day; becoming dependent on a significant other; no cold approaching, no talking to strangers, no leading social events; being overly non-confrontational, placating people to avoid conflict; smiling too much, talking too much; staying with a girl who is at best boring or at worst actively a bad person; fast/easy cures to anything - miracle weight loss drugs, crappy PUA tricks, oneitis (a miracle cure which replaces actual self-improvement and self-reliance); the list goes on and on.......

Male Discomfort-seeking: Avoiding using food as a comfort; lifting, playing challenging sports, interacting with humans; cultivating independence and self-reliance in all circumstances; cold approaching, talking to strangers, leading social events; being okay with confrontation or conflict when necessary in order to maintain values or self-respect (essentially holding frame); smiling when deserved, talking when deserved; breaking up with a girl when you know something's wrong, even though it's hard; preferring permanent, long-term change over fast/easy shortcuts, the list goes on and on...

Female Comfort Seeking: I'm not going to go into this much, but you can see women seek comfort all the time. Shit tests to make sure their man is strong, comfort tests, tons of examples.

CONCLUSION

I could honestly list examples for days. And like everything, there are exceptions to every rule. But comfort is often the lens through which I observe human decision-making (others' and my own) and I've found that it very frequently applies and helps to understand TRP. As for myself, "seek discomfort" has been my main guideline for about a year now, and I'm 50x happier for it.
