“You could leave life right now. Let that determine what you do and say and think.”— Marcus Aurelius

Everyday as I start my meditation I tell myself this quote. It really grounds me into the present moment. The point of it is urgency, appreciation and humility. It doesn't matter whether you're rich or poor; blonde or brunette; have lots of work to do or are on vacation - a truck could still crash into you and leave you breathless. This could happen sometime soon or tomorrow or even today.

Right now, before you keep reading or do anything else, take a few minutes to appreciate how short your life actually is in the grand scheme of things. The world will still spin whether you are there or not.

Too many people realise how precious life is far too late. Marcus Aurelius reminded himself more than 5 times in his Meditations about how short his life actually is. By contemplating mortality it will help you focus on what is important, realise how petty your problems are and how wasteful you are being of your time.
