FIELD REPORT

I’ve recently returned from holidays and although nothing too fruitful occurred; I did make some new connections that could prove valuable.

The Deputy

Upon arriving at the airport and clearing customs I meet my brother talking to a woman. He introduces her as Amanda. Asked her what brought her to the airport and she mentioned she’s picking up a new colleague. I joked and said if I wasn’t related to my driver I’d much prefer her picking me up too. After a bit of a chat and a laugh she invites us to dinner. I replied we’d love to. On the drive back to his house he mentions that Amanda’s The Deputy Ambassador and its relationship he’s cultivated that could be useful. To give a little background my brother and I are landowners and we're always on the look out for potentially beneficial relationships. He's been in the foreign department for most of his career and I was but am currently in the private sector. Unfortunately we couldn’t get our schedules aligned to take up Amanda’s invite but it's certainly a relationship we'll invest in moving forward. It's a good example to keep an open mind and game everyone; because of the opportunities they could present.

The Handyman

During our holiday we spent week at a resort. There was an issue with the toilet cistern not filling and sealing properly. I’m polite and cordial to everyone and especially those in service roles. I introduce myself to Rashad who appears to be a handyman at the resort and casually ask him to have a look our cistern. He does and mentions that a previous guest had sourced the seals overseas for that particular cistern however when they arrived they were the wrong size. Now this info wasn’t helpful to Rashad and I fixing the issue however it could be potentially helpful to me. Although we don’t run a plumbing supply business it’s beneficial to know that our resort was open to forming business relationships with guests. As an owner the best opportunities I've found is through networks organically grown. It didn’t surprise my sister in law that upon checking out I knew most of the bar staff by name, Rashad the handyman and a lovely couple I’d met on the beach because we both had on the same brand watch. (Handyhack; if a man has a watch on; compliment him on it. Bonus if it’s the same brand of watch as yours; compliment his taste. Works wonders for girls with good taste in accessories too.)

SUMMARY

Game everyone. From the handyman to the deputy ambassador; Be on the look out for potentially beneficial relationships. Half the fun is finding out what you can do for them; and what they can do for you.
