It wasnt always, but the founder commited suicide and the mods who were more about free speech than right and left were removed and replaced. people like spez(reddit ceo now) also admitted to replacing posts of people who had opinions he didnt like.

Also reddit is owned by conde nast who owns major networks that spew propaganda

Reddit's demographic is young.

Young people are generally financially liberal (welfare, benefits, free college, childcare, etc) until they work and taxes hit their income to pay for all that. They are usually socially liberal (they generally mirror their age peers on positions on gay marriage and other social issues) until they get older and the positions they once occupied are no longer considered liberal bleeding edge and are actually conservative without having changed opinions much (the whole left/right spectrum shifted).

short answer: because it’s filled with kids in their teens and twenties who have already been the target of liberal ideologies via education and media (pop culture). this has been the DNC strategy for decades now

it’s also no coincidence that most current DNC policies have no regard for long-term consequences of their actions

to break the conditioning is to break actual rules in place on many subreddits, leading to censorship (bans)

MSM leans left too.

The overall breakdown was pretty even in the last election. Yet more of the English-speaking bottom quartile that doesn't go online as much is conservative. Many of the young spoiled heavily online millenials didn't have to earn their foundation in life so they think everyone should have welfare. That tips the balance of the visible online community to liberal.

Plus, there's that quote "young and not liberal, no heart; old and not conservative, no brain". Reddit seems heavily skewed young.
