I realize it's kind of a big topic, and I'd think it'd need a little more theoretical consideration than the typical "what do I do bout this bitch shit testing me?!" post that I see on here, but whatever.
Polyamory is described as "consensual, ethical, and responsible non-monogamy". Both partners in a "serious, vetted" relationship are entirely open and honest about sleeping with other partners, right down to having group dates being a thing. There are many, many ways it can go very wrong, but from my perspective it's a way to see both sexes' biological imperatives met without really having to compromise as much as with monogamy. Men are free to go out and sleep with as many women as possible, and women are free to revel in their hypergamy (AWALT, polyamory or not); both have a healthy relationship (often referred to a nesting or primary partner) to fall back on for validation/sex/home life/etc.
Of course there are plenty of ways this can go wrong, which often involve one or both partners just being shitty people. Usually it's someone trying to open the relationship months or years into it ("I just realized I'm polyamorous, gonna go cheat on you now with no consequences!"), which is a good sign you picked the wrong person to be in a LTR with anyway. Additionally, women will often have many more offers than men, for obvious reasons... any dude weak enough to suffer oneitis in a LTR with a polyamorous woman is sure to get cucked over and over again.
On the plus side, it CAN be great if you are strong enough as a man to be proactive and reap the benefits. It no doubt gives you an incredible amount of preselection. Other plates/secondary relationship partners don't even have to know about polyamory if they are to be only ONS, hinting at other relationships should be enough. Of course, that kinda throws the "ethical" part out the window, but everyone here knows ethics don't belong in sexual strategy anyway. It's also a constant reminder to be independent, keep yourself in frame and so on... constantly improve yourself or you WILL get fucked up and fast. This is true with just having plates or monogamy as well, but it's less obvious when there are ambiguous barriers up. Additionally, group sex is way more common.
What do you think? Would you try being in a poly relationship? Why or why not?
