I would actually start with confidence and self esteem books if I were you. You see ultimately we are all our own worst enemy, every problem you perceive derives from some self doubt and insecurity you have within you. Just to give you perspective I didn't have a girlfriend until my late 20s, I was a total loser and girlfriendless all thru high school and college. So stop with I'm too old bs, I'm a total stud with ladies now and could game with the best of them. I'll speak from experience it all stems from confidence and self esteem which are all fixable issues.
I'm a good looking guy and I had the same things people telling me, I must be gay, I must be that. At the end of the day the one great thing the seduction community has taught me...DON'T GIVE A F WHAT ANYONE THINKS, why because I know who I am and they don't, and what they don't know is how great of a person I am. Truly be this and believe it and people will naturally be drawn to you.
My best advice is you need to start with self esteem books and Tony Robbin type books that will help you build confidence, once you do then you can step into the seduction community, but really before you get to seduction you need to have that confidence or a lot of the material you just won't understand.
Bro 33 is young and trust me women love older guys, I have 18 years olds flirting with me and I'm 35. Again girls love guys who carry themselves well. you think they give an f what your past is, trust me they won't if u carry ur self in sexy way, cause all they'll care about is getting in your pants!
I start my days with this simple saying...i promise today I'm going to better myself in some aspect or characteristic that I didn't possess yesterday. The goals are always small but after weeks/months you begin to say holy shit this is working and I'm the fricken man!

Keep your head up and stay positive, change comes slow sometimes but like anything with a little persistence and patience you'll succeed and be a better person

You seem like a goodhearted person, so that is not just a start but great news for the next woman you meet.
I can tell you only what's worked for me in the past and I guess you can call it the watch, learn and practice approach:
Watch seduction guru videos online. You really seem like someone who'd respond well to Richard Laruina or one of the more gentlemanly pick up artists, which is fine. I'd say also watch videos of comedians you find funny. Then, go out and practice. Go to bars and start small. Small talk with anyone you might get along with. You don't need to become Casanova overnight.
Lastly, here's something that worked for me when I was depressed in high school. If you want something, for me it was to be funny...just concentrate on that. I watched a ton of comedians online and rewired my brain to understand humor. I was depressed because I didn't think I was funny for months, but my inner voice was always saying "I want to be funny." After about 8 months, I finally let go of being sad, caring about whether I was funny or not, and that day I just naturally became funny. I became the funniest guy in school. The same thing worked with seduction. Really, you can do anything you set your mind to. I know it sounds, cliché but I am living proof. No doubts, just results. Sincerely, I hope you turn your life around for the better. Happy trails =]

Respect to you for pulling yourself together and casting off the shackles of abstinence dogma.
Online dating. I consider myself a confident man and find online dating a strain on the ego. The worst is when I've sent a message and get no response yet know they're online. And this is in spite of the knowledge that these women are managing dozens of emails a day. It's like my mind understands the dynamic but my gut can't help feeling a little anxious. Sucks.
You seem like a decent guy, so i recommend you look up the PUA literature on inner game. David DeAngelo has produced a lot of work on inner game. It's suited for guys who are seeking a path to a more personal, and deep spiritual connection with a woman as opposed to getting merely laid. Your situation kinda reminds me of what I felt when I was in junior high. I just wanted to find someone to love. I can only imagine what it's like at 33.
For what it's worth, 33 isn't old. Hell, I'm 43 and I'd love to be even 37 again. I'm currently dating a 36 year old gal I met online. She's fabulous. Come to think of it, David DeAngelo's stuff helped me position myself to stand out among other guys, at least according to her. One way to stand out is not sending a picture of your dick and bring up sex in your first message. You'd think this would be common knowledge, but no, it's not.
