Long time lurker, figured I'd give something back.

To make a long story short, I went out tonight after working for 3 straight weeks. I've lately noticed that I care less and less about the outcome of a night, but somehow that translated to me as "be distant and anti-social because you don't care". I noticed this not working, but since I am supposed to not care or worry about it, I just started talking to random people. Random things like, "I'm glad its not cold out" and "your drunk ass better get off the street or the cops will do bad things to you" etc. Since it was cold, and I was only doing this with people in passing, it didn't really work out at all.

I ended up picking up a cigar at a shop downtown and walking around with it. Apparently this provided a few conversation openers, but like "wow, I've never seen anyone in this town walk around with a cigar (disdainfully)"

I had noticed around here that you shouldn't be all nice and accommodating with chicks, and instead try teasing them a little. And so, as I was standing at the corner of a bar, this overwhelming scent of stanky shoe BO comes wafting in. I say to the nearest chick something along the lines of "Damn, did you take a shower today or what?" I'm pretty sure she didn't hear me, as the bar was really loud. But in hindsight, this probably wasn't a useful thing to say.

I'm glad I didn't go out planning anything, because nothing happened. I didn't fail myself, because I set no expectations. I talked to people, and I didn't "make nice". I tried to be a little random, slightly confrontational. I'm pretty sure I did it all wrong. Fortunately, it isn't soul crushing. I don't however know what I'd do differently to be successful and interesting.

tl:dr How do you even talk in really loud bars? I can't hear a thing! Talking at random passersby on the street in the cold doesn't get you anywhere, because no one is relaxed because it is FUCKING COLD out. And don't say stupid shit.
