The Lego video games are great fun and there's a neat multiplayer they could do together. We're adults and we still love playing those Lego games.

Saying "it sounds like we'll be homeless.." is you saying you can't trust him. If you want him to take the lead you have to let him. You can't sit in the passengers seat and constantly try to grab over, take the controls, and then wonder why he can't drive effectively.

Just beware, this backfired on me years ago. It ended up somewhat hurting him because he felt 1) what was already mentioned (wouldn't we do this anyway) and 2) by pulling out whatever coupon that he was presenting a chore and not something we'd actually want to do - I'd be doing something out of obligation and this would take away from the fun. I think it'd be better to just plan an activity or excursion or have a little list of ideas and just bust them out at the right time.

My partners culture it's an honor to use full names, in mine it's bad luck to name someone after the deceased especially - so we use first letter. Maybe you can take initials like someone else mentioned or just the first letter.

Kinda small but very big thing for me, I haven't pulled out any of my hair in seven days (I have "untreated" trich/ocd). In 20 + years I haven't gone a day without going at my hair. Starting to go to the climbing gym with boyfriend. It'll be good motivation for me to work out on the side because I want to build strength and stamina to be better t the wall.

You say that but then you say stuff that doesn't jive if I'm reading right. You have insecurities that you'll plan something that won't be fun so you don't offer anything. (?) Offer a suggestion worse he says is no or yes and it's awful and you all find ways to laugh about it. Second point, if you want to be okay with it then be okay with it because you are the only one who can make peace with your own frustration.

I think it's best to be open and honest. It's not a first date conversation but if you're serious then yeah it would be worth bringing up in the way partners might share their past struggles/story/experiences. Framing is partly going to depend on where you are in life with what happened to you. I had a bad experience several years before my current boyfriend. I did tell him pretty early on but I think we were talking about something related and it just kind of came up in conversation. He's share…

Lately I feel like our relationship has been great but I can feel myself failing in maybe one of the most important aspects. I'm failing at being myself. I feel uninspired, unmoved, and unmotivated. Since moving to this new area and just kind of change of lifestyle and surroundings I have no idea what to do with myself. All I do is go to work, come home. Eat, sleep, repeat. Surely I must be the most boring person in the world to know - let alone date. My boyfriend is getting in to all this neat …

This is what I do too (the bottom half). My SO has very specific and technical stuff he needs for travel so I stay far away from it, but overall I think this is best practice anyway because from my experience (dad and boyfriend both travel a lot) packing is a methodical and person thing. I say focus on making the home better than when he left so he settles into a relaxing enjoyable environment after stressful traveling. (extra cleaning, treats, a good meal, whatever it may be). Honestly, it's go…

This post got me thinking about something I've been trying to work on. When my SO says, "I don't care" I want to get frustrated but that is him making a choice. It's him deciding that whatever I'm asking an opinion on is too trivial for him to care about, not in his realm, etc and therefore it's my decision.

First thing I wonder is how does she respond to any of his "critiques?" Did he try to be open and she flies off the handle? You said that you suspect he tries to avoid conflict, why should his "dissent" cause conflict? Did he previously try to tell her something and she reacted poorly causing him to not even bother anymore? This is something I had to improve upon. My boyfriend wouldn't want to tell me things, "because he didn't want me to be mad/sad/upset" For my part I had to work to create a s…

Those guys are out for something different from the guys that commit and settle down. Some of them might decide settle later but at this point, that's not the intention. The girls with them are willfully ignorant or just ignorant.

I don't remember that really being the issue. We more just learned about body functions, diseases, and an unmarried pregnant woman came in with her other two children in two and said "don't be me". I can't really imagine menopause/infertility being brought up to a bunch of young kids because they would barely to be able to comprehend life at 40. I just knew my mom was born after her parents were over 40 and she said it was miserable so I said if I ever had kids it would be younger than that.

You're listing all the textbook things you do for him and those are great but he's telling you exactly what he wants and needs. As I see it you only choice is to open your mind and explore it with him or let him be with someone who is into that type of stuff. It's not wrong if you're not but sexuality compatibility is a make it or break it deal, at least in my opinion. Neither of you should have to compromise your needs and desires. You'll have to think long and hard about if this is for you.

The only choice for you to make is this partner or this hobby. I'm going to dissent and say somebody might find rowing to be attractive. Perhaps another rower may enjoy having a partner that also rows. Who knows? The fact is, that's not your partner. If you want to continue a relationship with this partner you will have willingly give up rowing. If you would rather be tied to rowing then you'll have to give up this partner because he's clearly not a partner who values rowing. What you cannot do …

Good point on the friends especially! My closest friends know not to hug me, it's like a running joke between us. I still get weirded out when boyfriend's very large extended family all need hugs at every event. I always go along with it of course but it's a one handed please let this end hug. Definitely seems unintentionally standoffish. I don't mean to be, I care about people I just don't care to be touched so I get you. I think he would definitely love if I played with his hair. When we're hanging out I usually keep some space out of comfort but I guess I'm gonna have to transcend some boundaries to make him happy. I like the idea about writing notes. I try to do it once in a while in his lunchbox but I should do it more frequently and in other places because I know he enjoys it and because of our jobs we actually don't see each other much so that's a really neat way to keep affection up from a distance. I didn…

Thanks for the words of encouragement. It's very true, I need to practice at it. Sometimes I just frustrated because he'll get upset and it'll have occurred to me too late that I should've done something. Good point about the words too, I'm usually pretty quiet. I express gratitude really well to let others know I appreciate them but as far as vulnerable situations I'm more of a joke and deflect so I don't have to be honest about how i feel I guess.

I don't have any advice but I'm here in solidarity. My boyfriend has a very mentally and physically taxing job with poor management that he absolutely hates. He frequently shares with me really harsh, hard to digest feelings about his work situation. I tend to feel guilty because I don't make enough money for him to just quit and find something different. I hate how stressed out he is because nobody should just dread going to work every day, especially in a field they are passionate about (as he…

Ironically I've never felt more personal power than with RP. It forced me to take a cold hard look at myself and left me with self-awareness, fulfillment, motivation and direction. It's kinda like the gym I guess, some people hate shit they have to work at.

Sometimes there's just too much bad blood and hurt feelings to be able to forgive and forget. This may be a case of too little too late but the worst thing you can do is impose any more of yourself on him. If he says he's done, believe it. Let him go with his space and whatever dignity you have to muster. Start and keep working on yourself. The way you've phrased things "I can be submissive sometimes and not others" means you haven't internalized. I think I have a pretty unique perspective on fa…

A simple hand written note goes a long way. I had a previous partner that was long distance and we would write hand written notes all the time. I knew his favorite color and would find envelopes in that color to send them in so it adds a little extra personal touch.

Definitely true! Everything I've learned and thought about has really forced me to challenge myself. I can't tolerate sitting around wasting time, I can't tolerate any kind of mediocrity. I know a big flaw of mine has always been that I hold others to whatever standard I hold myself to. In work, relationships, friendships, etc. As I increase my standards I see that come out negatively on how I perceive others. Good sometimes like when picking friends, not so great for every day interactions.

Hm I've got some stuff on my heart lately. The other day someone I'm becoming good friends with confided in me she's struggling with an addiction that I struggled with at one point. My fellowship goal this week is to come out as a supportive ear without being pushy, preachy or overbearing. Personally, I'm starting a second job in a week so I'm trying to remain free of anxiety about how I will effectively manage my time and deal with some sadness about loss of personal time (book club, etc). My mantra is something my dad taught me when my sister and I used to fight and be little emotional pre-teen shits he wasn't having any of it. He'd just cut us off over and over, "I'm not interested in that just stick to the facts." It used to bother me so much but now I'm grateful for it. I run myself through my emotions usually by talking out loud to myself, or writing quietly, and at the end, if I feel so compelled to share, I give a concise statement. When you run through your emotions your g…

Is there like a magnetic poetry set for racy text ideas? I always sound so dumb when I try to text anything sexy I just abandon ship before I make a fool of myself. As for the question, I do send pictures to my SO because I trust him, he's not vindictive and he travels a lot. The good news is this is your battle and you can kick ass. Some things I did: You have to challenge your brain. Your brain isn't bad but sometimes it's an asshole. I weigh 115 pounds but, when I look in the mirror I see a baby orca whale. I know logically i can't be a baby whale, mostly because I can't swim. For me it's all about intention. There is careless sex (that's the bad kind) and then there's..well I can't think of a good name but well intended sex..?I've had sex with guys when I knew we weren't going anywhere and we both knew why we were hanging out, I consider those my notches. You can be a perfect 10 on the outside but if you're a pain in the ass or ugly on the inside no decent guy is going to put up with your shit. Pretty girls are a dime a dozen you need to be all around an all around great catch. You have admitted to have some inner turmoil so I'd focus on that. "Makes me wonder what he's doing with me." From what you've said it doesn't sound like she has a sparkling personality to go with those sparkling looks. Why would he want to be with someone who said he was boring? That's really rude to tell someone. Then she got married and divorced and now he's not so boring anymore? I've always said I never realized I was oppressed until feminism told me I was and I stand by that. I think our culture grossly overcompensates for history, when I do believe there was a time that being a woman was no great shakes. Now, my degree is in religion where women play an interesting role there and you could argue some oppression exists in certain denominations of each religion. Politically, I'm personally not sure how I feel about all the about reproductive rights arguements and it see…

Well honestly there was no real "smoking gun." Something interesting that came up was that when she told the story he called her about coming over and she said "no way, what would my boyfriend think" When my boyfriend told the story he did go over to her house to kill time before he went to the airport for work. I took everything to heart that everyone said and I had to make a call. He's never given me a reason to not trust him but she has. When I first met her she made comments about how it stu…

Thanks for the way you laid it out! I mentioned it in a later post but after reflecting and taking everything in both my SO and I have decided that this girl is not somebody that I, or he, needs in our lives. She has a long history of stirring the pot in this group of friends and my SO has no history of any shady behavior with or before me. Ten years from now I'd rather be laughing about this with my partner then having a half assed friendship with a half assed friend. He and I talked about it a…

We do have sex every day, I'm not sure how fulfilling it is every time but he seems happy about it. If I believed the scenario I'd assume he's emotional cheating teetering on physical. But when I type it out it sounds too ridiculous.

She kind of does, the kind of person who could be at your funeral and manage to make it about her. She got passed around this group of guys, turned most of them against each other and ended up with the last guy she hadn't yet slept with. She's not the best apple but I've always tried to be accepting of her because she was a weird friend of this group that I came in to. Didn't ever want to be crazy new girlfriend about her. I might have to start though.

I actually deleted a bunch of stuff because I was afraid of being long winded. We've been together 3 1/2 years. We've been having a little bit of a rough patch but nothing too crazy just a little bit of a lull and some strain in both of our personal lives. Sorry I wasn't very clear. Or maybe this just doesn't make sense. I went from being outspoken to over compensating and becoming a bit of a doormat. I don't share my views anymore, I'm really passive. So for the first thing I've almost always been in long distance relationships or situations that required me to bring a little over night backpack/bag. The way this post reads is really emotionally driven. Are you sure your thinking and speaking objectively? So what if he wants to live with guys? It's not something to take personal it's just what he wants to do right not and that's totally cool. It's not your place or right to judge his "immature friends" that's actually pretty rude/mean spirited. If he doesn't like you wearing his clothes then don't. I don't think that's an unfair thing to want and more importantly it shows you have learned from your mistakes and grown from them. I always aim to be upfront and candid about anything from my past. I own my mistakes and have made amends with myself and my partner. He sees beyond that and knows that I am not the same foolish person I was. Nothing about the past can be undone but it does not have to define your future. Best of luck to you.

I actually cannot stand beards but I read a pretty interesting article about how the new found interest in beards might be related to evolution. Basically, beards went out of style and became a "rare" and therefore appealing trait. Soon it'll swing to clean shaven being "rare" and continue cycling. I don't know that there's any stock in the idea but I thought it was interesting and your comment reminded me of it.
