Dude. Do it what is good for you. If you got the money, pay and let it be I say. Doesn’t make you an asshole. I was in a Similar boat per se, except no kids.

And to piggy back off this. Is it even worth it to have kids? Divorced. Not sure!

I agree. I thought my ex was an incredible woman. The prenup broke it and had a brief 2 year marriage. All fell apart before we were even married. The woman I met now says “prenup please” and let’s keep our finances separate.

When it rains it pours. I’ve had a really shitty 3 years - and only since my divorce was finalised things started turning for the positive.

My confidence was on an all time low post separation and divorce. Took me a long time to bounce back. Normal to feel like this.

Wise words. I think I ran head first into a wall of red flags this time. But I keep on going. Fuck. I’m like a bull in a china shop. Except I know what I’m doing and trying to navigate it. Or so I tell myself. Anyhow. Wise words on it all 47omek.

Happy for you. But, main thing is to understand what each of them trigger inside you. Work through it. What I mean, whether right or not. I met this woman post divorce. I was infatuated by her. Similar to when I met my ex wife and when I was in my 20s with my first real big girlfriend. I was literally just taking time to myself and not act on the infatuation. Trying to understand “why”. We kept on seeing each other, in turn different things are being brought up inside of me. For example, me stan…

… yes even before we were married. We still went through with it though. I should have called it off. But my balls werent big enough. Too close to the wedding. Bla bla bla. Why? Ever since we signed the prenup she withdrew from me and “us” as a unit. In turn I hoped once officially married it will get better again. Obviously it didn’t.

I stopped drinking 2 months before divorce and never went back. Stay strong in that regard. I did substitute it with an unhealthy amount of gyming and running until my body broke. But it helped me through the dark times. Plus i ate ice cream. Anyway. Emotions will be a roller coaster regardless. Flow with them. Time heals. I’ve been separated close to a year now and officially divorced for like 3 months. And in hindsight even though I thought ive been doing ok this year. I’ve not been ok. Coping…

Yup. You couldn’t have said it better. Separated a tear now, divorced for like 3 months or so. Still ponder about her and what happened to us at times as I miss my best friend. But - what you said is exactly what happened. In hindsight sight she was checked out earlier and then just “bam”. Gone.

I went on a few dates after separation before divorce was final. I was too messed up and it wasn’t fun. I did get laid which was I needed. Stopped it and only wanted to start eating once divorce was final. Met this woman post divorce and we started seeing each other. Was bringing out different things inside me. Shit took through. But we keep on seeing each other. Super slow. And it’s nice so far. But, I wanted to only date seriously once I was divorced (granted it took 9 months only for the pape…

Normal and don’t force it. I met this girl. I never slept over. I didn’t want to. And I was ok with it. Was short term regardless. So the fact that you have reservation, just look after yourself.

I think it’s normal once you meet someone post the ex that they trigger certain things. Sometimes being unsure. Sometimes other emotions. Good or bad ones. She does sound amazing, and I mean you can just be honest and say that you are into her. At times it’s tough but you want to be with her. Or you can just keep those emotions to yourself and still say you like and enjoy her. Either way. I would not throw it away. She does sound amazing for what you’ve described. What I’ve noticed for my self, …

Like others said. I wouldn’t. Maybe she was curious and keen for other men. Maybe someone let her on. And now she got it out her system. But the same could happen in 5 or 10 years. And then it will cost you emotionally and financially even more. And I mean, if she fucks around and then comes back. Neh. I wouldn’t. Maybe if it was one dude and then realised “hold on, I want my husband…”. So yeah. Bad news. Embrace the pain. Don’t do it.

Thanks for this - that others are going through the same. And it’s normal. I didn’t expect it - but I’m ok. Just odd that it came back to me… in hindsight, we’ve had contact 3 times as well during the divorce and each time did affect me a bit…

I was going to say fair enough. We all tend do that. But then Actually - if this is true - rather deal with it then running into the next arms. When I was in my 20s I used to numb myself with other girls. But post divorce I actually am taking time to just focus on myself… so, if the above is true - zero sympathy.

OP You need to think clearly or get to be around loved ones. Life might be falling apart at present but think about your son. Grief. Get yourself together. With time you will see the light at the end of the tunnel. But that will take time. Until then - you need to remember you are a father. Your son needs you. A father is looking out for his child. You are a fucking saviour and a fucking hardcore machine that has gone through so much! This will be another story part of your life. Tough. Not fun.…

Only 2 years. Were together for 5 before that and pretty much lived together after 4 or so months. She was the coolest and most compatible girl I’ve ever dated… hence I didn’t want to let that go.

I was unhappy for quite some time - but I did not pull the trigger as I made vows and would work through it. She was always travelling and we saw each other 2 months out of a year. I got us into marriage counselling - shared my feelings - and then two months later she asked for divorce… My point is: don’t let things go on forever. In this case, I don’t expect it - as we were working on it. But I’m happy it went a certain way. Still painful though. Trust me. It’s scary to let a person go you’ve l…

Sucks. My story is different. I don’t think she cheated. But she turned into this woman I’ve had no idea existed. Which remained throughout our separation and now divorce as well. I don’t know how to explain it, like: she turned cold, angry, non caring except herself and went on every principle she stood for. I was baffled. Hence - I’ve seen(heard) it happen to a few. All - including mine - with zero remorse at all. Whereas I tried making it work due to our vows. It’s life. It sucks. Be thankful…

When exes up come up… Kids I would say is a different story and in my view should be shared up front. But re divorced - it’s same as having dated in my view. It could come up during the first or second date when exes or relationships come up. My view. Obviously they will ask you. And if you then start bitching about your ex or start crying … well, that won’t help. :)

It’s never fun seeing an ex. Emotions. Hurt. Memories. Jealousy… married or not. All break ups are the same in my view.

Like others said … amicable is … a wish. We split, her choice and it was extremely amicable at the start. Then she became worse and worse. I mean it’s still nothing compared to what is happening to lots of others. But the woman I knew changed and showed different cards. I’m sure once all is finalised one can be amicable again.

I think most of us lost our best friend. My best friend however moved on emotionally the a few months before our marriage and then it just degraded. Meaning it was a process of decline regardless. Never fun. I know. But do positive things look after yourself. Gym (like others said) Cry Do what you want and need to But move on with life and become the best you can be. Also. Don’t try to make sense of the past or why it happened… no point in that. If you are stuck on it, limit yourself to one week…

Cry and allow yourself to cry. Therapy helps Cry some more. It’s good for you. If you go further get a mediator or lawyer if required. Understand yo-yo of emotions. Exercise (my opinion) Don’t drink (or don’t drink excessively)! Have friends to support you I cried when she asked for divorce. For roughly one week I had the last 7 years through my mind. Good luck. Mine started out ok but broke down as it continued. In short. Very amicable divorce until it started happening. We had a mediator that I brought on. But it was not a train smash unlike situations I’ve seen on here. This things that everyone says and what is true: Get a mediator to resolve and manage it. It helps. What I’ve seen from other posts it’s quite tough. Best is to speak to legal to get an estimate. But th fact that she is not working is a tough one. Re therapy what others said - try it. I know. A fuckup indeed. I honestly thought I had the most solid woman. I mean we had issues and I was unhappy prior to wedding. But I thought she is a good partner. Then she walked out which I wasn’t in her character. Hence I hear you about a lot of woman of today. I’ve read / heard that it’s about partnership compatibility as it’s different to just marrying for emotions and romanticism. I think tv polluted our thinking what marriage is about “love, cuddling, hand holding, and forever love”

Well, if 50% of all 1st marriages are failing up to 70% of all 3rd marriages, then I guess the majority of those staying together are not happy as they are too scared of pulling the trigger. Anyhow. I believe in transparency when in comms. But no need to bring it up the first 2 minutes you met a girl either. Depends where the conversation goes.l are my 2c. We all had some play to in it one way or another. Directly or indirectly. You live. You learn. You can’t change it. Remember the best. Learn from it. Appreciate the past. (Easier said than done right?). Don’t get guilt eat you up After my separation all I was to go through my last 7 years and relive every moment. To understand where it went wrong. What I did wrong. Etc. not healthy. Not good. Not beneficial.

Sorry bud. For me I’ve been thinking about that ex more, similar to what you are saying out of habit - I understand it’s tough for the new person. Something opposite happenend to me when I was a girl at university who said her exs name. Back then I think it’s a bit more of a thing as one is younger. In this case - she needs to understand you’ve got a long history. Just reflex talk to speak in my view.

It’s normal. Some have it more than others. Some were serial daters and hence also never single. But the main thing is - now is the time. Whether 30, or 55. Now is time to focus on yourself. Discover and rediscover yourself. And learn to love spending time alone with yourself. Baby steps.

Same here. Main (and for 2 years only breadwinner). Did most the chores (washing to cooking) and now that she is gone my life is simpler. Better systems in place and place is less cluttered. She did do a good job deep cleaning the house (better than me) but besides that everything is simpler and cleaner here. From washing - to kitchen - to overall place. I prefer it this way. :)
