Hi all

I’ve posted a few times. I know a lot have it much more hardcore than I have. Shout out to all of you on that topic!

Separated since November Married 2 years. Together for 7. Divorce discussions in process. No kids. Only 2 cats.

She wanted the divorce - I had hope for working through it.

I proposed giving her a car and paying for another few months of medical and car insurance. I gave her all the wedding gifts that she wanted and all the aspects that she wanted from storage. So pretty much said take what you want wherever.

She came back with a stupid counter proposal (for me to pay to send the cat back to our home country, to send a fucking wine fridge back (this triggered me), pay for a flat, pocket money etc.

I feel that my generosity and kindness is being mistaken with weakness.

I am still ok giving her the car to assist her - and I’m happy to give her some cash, with her to make the decision whether she wants to use the money to get the car, or if she wants to use it get her own spot or whatever else she wants.

Like I said - the fact that she asked for the wine fridge as well I found one too many aspects. (She expects me to send the wine fridge across continent or buy her a new one, even though she took everything else). And I am seriously getting to a point where I would rather give her nothing at all, sell the car instead of giving it to her - and use that money for court and lawyer fees out of principal.

Plus the “amicable” separation we’ve had is really becoming super toxic in my view since her mother stepped in with the demands.

Hence, my question is: am I getting distracted and unreadable? Should I give in to my emotions and focus on the principal of standing my ground, or still have some kind of kindness to give her some cash and the car.

From a legal perspective I don’t have to give her anything at all (I spoke with divorce lawyer - but obviously then it would go via court which I kind of want to avoid as I am not really keen for a long drawn out emotional battle).
