I started dating a nice man for about 4 months and he moved back to his country. We talk every day on the phone and he sends me letters and is actively planning to return this year and keeps me updated. I'm realistic about this relationship and not invested to the extent that if it didn't work out, I would be shattered. The difference for me is that I am very, very busy with work and friends so I don't place this relationship at the front and it fits my needs. I also have accepted a deadline and…

Jesus Christ, This is my ex to a tee while he was cheating on me and after breaking up 😂 the whole 'You're not happy' line while he was banging someone else without my knowledge. What? Yes I was... Until I found out. And then post affair, telling me all the things he did for me and he still couldn't 'make me happy' to excuse his inexcusable behaviour. Nah you're just a cheat. Thanks for this 😘

Agree with what you wrote, but it's not even being 'mean'. It's being assertive and being confident enough to say no to any behaviour from other people which violates our peace. There is so much power in the word 'no'.

Same! Once you get it and crack the code, it's brilliant and you waste less time on people you're incompatible with, and in work situations you can play the game better. But you also see parts of people which are a bit ugly which can be disappointing.

Oh I like this! I've been reading this book on how to better read other people and I really think it's to do with micro expressions. Like you catch a split second look of disgust, greed or anger but they're fake smiling and your brain registers it but doesn't always. So yes it's your intuition in a way.

As someone who has been cheated on, it's the most soul destroying thing you can do to someone and even being the other woman shows a lot about your character. I don't know how women (if they know) can engage in that kind of LV behaviour.

I'd be livid too if I was working at home all day and my husband finished work early and then just did nothing around the place while I kept working. It honestly sounds like she wants him out so she doesn't lose her shit. That is an unbalanced power dynamic and it's toxic asf.

Look right, if you're asking on the internet if your partner is abusive, you straight up need to end it. This happens when women are gaslighted into ignoring their intuition and have no confidence.

Good on you! My ex fiance also cheated on me shortly after I got my dream job because it hit his fragile perception of himself. They always time it to break you before an important date. They want you to fail and grovel.

I never do 50/50 and I go into every date with that mindset. I never have to bring it up, it's implied that he asked me out, he's paying. There's no awkwardness, I just expect it and it's never been brought up. It doesn't make a man HV because he pays, because I've experienced that, but it shows that he understands my value initially. Which allows me to focus on vetting him, not focusing on the power dynamic.

My first impressions were always right but I still gave them second chances because I doubted myself. I'll never do that again. For example, I recently went on a date with a man who seemed genuine and we knew each other as kids. However, he touched me continuously even after I moved and asked him to stop. So no second date! With my ex fiance, on our first date he was a real asshole to a taxi driver and it turned me off, but I decided there was more there. Yes he was nice 90% of the time, but he …

I feel physically ill at the thought of that happening to her, and deep down I know it's a real possibility. Men talk about women baby trapping them, but men are as guilty of it too.

Not Amercian, but I agree with all of your points. Especially if the man is coming from a traditional and conservative culture, which this one is. Although she tells me he is not that 🤦‍♀️ I don't think she knows him at all.

I agree, dating and love shouldn't be complicated or come with conditions. It creates a fast paced environment where you have the potential to overlook a lot of red flags.

Girlll right?! Dating should be fun not calculated timeline points. I have other HVW friends and I thought she was too, but this is ridiculous.

Yes it will be a big life lesson for her. I do believe that sometimes you have to learn it the hard way for these lessons to really sink in. From what she's said he's already proposed plans which will isolate her from her support system. I will maintain light contact, but it's exhausting hearing her speak so naively.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy10/01/22 01:14 AM

Yes I feel like even before the relationship progresses there are conditions on it which is unhealthy. I cannot get through to her. It not good at all. We've been friends for 10+ years and I would have never picked her for the person to fall hook, line and sinker for this.

If he really is such a great guy you should feel comfortable discussing this with him. It's something you need to tackle head on or you will drift further apart emotionally until you will eventually split up due to the lack of communication and disconnection. Are these things you can both work on? Can he understand your point of view? Is your relationship worth salvaging? What do you want the end result to be?

My ex also did not use social media. At first I thought it was a total green flag. However, he later created an Instagram (I don't have it) and used it as a platform to cheat on me lol. I think some men who don't use it, do it for the reason to stop partners finding out about other women.

Hey girl, regardless of everything you wrote, he said he wasn't ready for a relationship and that's still a no. He's unavailable and you seen available. I'm also lightly dating a man I met, who works short stints interstate and may eventually go home to his home country. He's talked about living back in my state where we met. While I like him, I know as soon as he makes potential plans to leave, I'll cut contact because his actions would say he wasn't interested in me long term, or saw me as a h…

Wow my life reads like a bad romance novel. I held the door open for my ex fiance. Although if he comes back he will discover there is no door. I also agree that breaks in relationships are code to sleep around and cheat. Someone who truly values you would not risk losing you. So yes a clear lack of respect for you. Let that man go 👍
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy02/01/22 10:18 PM

I do agree with you there. My last ex definitely had mental health and substance abuse issues that surfaced towards the end of our relationship, although I had ample time to breakup with him before they became obvious. Hindsight is a bitch.

You are so right! I don't find it difficult to date men on the same educational level as me, however the moral and attractive level is different and often men can hide who they are for many years until you discover the morally corrupt version. It's a shame, but I will continue to persevere.

This happened to my mum (so glad I inherited most of her genes!) and myself also. My last 3 partners she specifically told me were not much to look at but they adored me so she was okay with it. Lo and behold two of them turned out to be cheaters. I will only date men in my league now. I know the idea of leagues is antiquated in most cases but I take care of my looks and body and I've only just realised how important it is for your partner to do the same. It's a testament not to narcissism but t…

We were together for nearly 3 years and engaged to be married next year. We were childhood friends and crazy about each other. We had a lot of fun and I trusted him completely (my mistake). This year he starts acting weird, snappy, mean, working out, and drinking more and and tells me it's work stress. I have to work some weekends and I tell him it's temporary but I can tell he's pissed. He's been acting weird since I got my 100k job and acting out. He starts being quite awful and working late, …

Damn. I'm completely covered except chest, hands, face, neck and feet because I'm a teacher. I do suffer in Summer though 😂 mine are 90% good quality and I'd say I date men with and without. The only problem I encounter is gross sexualisation from random men. As for the men I've dated, I just say that the ones with hand and head tattoos have always turned out to be narcissistic and/or abusive.

My ex is getting balder every day 😂
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy23/10/21 05:53 AM

Also a teacher and I agree 100% Any sexualisation of my job is a big red flag. I work at a high calibre school which also leads to a lot of male insecurity unfortunately but it weeds them out too. I seem to date men who have parents who are teachers too, so they seem to understand the line of work better. Also understand why you would change professions! Putting yourself first is HVW behaviour.

Girllll I am in the same boat as you. My ex fiance cheated on me (although with trailer trash) and if I can give you any advice it is DONT stoop to their level. You are better than that. Let the relationship play out. They are not as happy as you think and you can't build a long lasting relationship on lies and deceit. Trust me, if she was willing to take in a cheater she is not on your level. Take comfort in the fact that 80% of relationships fail and the likelihood of theirs succeeding is low.…

I haven't. I think when you reach your mid-late twenties you know what you want and you understand your value, and the men you should be dating are men who are seeking to win you over. They show this by effort. If his ideal date is low effort, then it communicates his intentions from the beginning. Low effort=low investment.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy07/10/21 11:42 PM
5

I agree, life is too damn short. Yes breakups suck but they are also wonderful opportunities to invest in you and your dreams, and re-evaluate what you as an individual desire. From this experience I've learnt that while I was independent in my own mind, we still shared a house that he owned, and I don't want to be in a situation again where I have to move my things out. The goal is to be 100% independent and rely on no one but yourself ❤️

As someone who was almost married, I can look back on our relationship and see where the cracks started to form. I worked by butt off for a 100k job and I was suddenly not as available. I stopped cooking for us both as much and the resentment and jealously built up. He tried to sabotage my employment twice. He wanted someone below him to take care of him so he could be the man, so to speak. I will never be that person.

Story time! So I went to high school with this dude a year above me. We were kids and at a party, spoke very briefly. Next thing I know he had lied and told everyone that we had had sex, and the whole school thought I was some girl who slept with everyone. It was absolutely awful and it followed me for years even after school. I was a virgin and apparently I had slept with sooo many people. I even had people call me a 'slut' in public. Love to hear it 😊 My fiance gets up super early every morning to take me to the bus station because it makes my life easier and it's dark and he worries about me. I worked over 12 hours yesterday and he picked me up, made dinner, set up my favourite show and helped me to bed because I had a migraine. I was in a university library studying, and this pervert starts masturbating behind a book shelf and staring at me. I froze for a good few minutes because I just couldn't believe it was happening, it was a university. I reported it and a librarian sighed at me and told me he was a regular. Yeuuck

I think it's consistent acts of love and consideration. Every day he makes my life easier and better. These are also things which I don't need to ask for, he just does because we are conscious of each other. Whether it is running me a bath, bringing me a cup of tea, picking me up from work, bringing home my favourite snacks etc. If you have to ask for them to care, then they don't care enough.

The over-pronunciation is deliberate. He gets a kick out of disrespecting her and enjoys bragging about it to his bros. Any man who calls you a 'bitch', shouldn't get a second chance to do it again.

I came here to to say the same thing too! I remember telling my LVM ex what I wanted in a man and a relationship (and he wasn't reaching my expectations), and him sneering at me and telling me that there aren't men like that and all relationships change after the 'honeymoon stage' and that relationships were meant to be up and down constantly. Well who's laughing now because I've been with a man for 2 years who adores me endlessly every day and treats me like the queen I am, and it still feels a…

Yes came here to say this too 🙌 My HVM comes from a family of well known artists and creative folk. He works an office job that doesn't give him lots of room to stretch himself creatively, but he is involved in creative projects at home, mostly home and garden improvements. Blows me away all the time. I went to art school and while there are some HVM there, there are lots of men who while they are wonderful artists, they also use their art as an output for mental illnesses.

Making a plan is the hardest part and you're already there! I too was involved with a NVM who sucked me dry. Nearly three years later, I'm with a total HVM who treats me like the queen I am, I just scored my dream job earning 100k a year and I have savings for a house deposit. Three years ago I had $0 savings, living week to week, PTSD from my abusive ex, renting a tiny cupboard with shitty roomates. But it was all the start of something wonderful, and it was better than being where I was before…

Yes queen! 🙌 Men should be perceptive, generous and in tune with their partners. Just then my man came home with a box of chocolates and a hand made card he did at work because he knew I was feeling down yesterday. Last week I was browsing seaside cabins on Airbnb wistfully, and he sneakily asked to have a look. Went off, and booked it for a weekend getaway. Women deserve to be treated in a loving, generous fashion, and men enjoy being providers and making us happy 👑

Yikes. Good call. I too can relate to this particular type of LVM in past dating experiences. Being cheap is such a turn off. My current partner is thrifty to a certain degree, in that he didn't spend any money on new clothes and he lived off cheap meals in order to build his house. This was just before we met though and he has eased up considerably since then. He has no hesitation spending money on quality things for us and myself, and calls me princess.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy25/10/20 09:20 PM

Agreed. My NVM ex used to belittle and sneer at my degrees, education and career with the old 'Education doesn't make you smart' phrase, but he was a total deadbeat child who had barely completed primary schooling. Maybe not, but it signifies drive, determination, commitment and self discipline. All qualities which he did not have... My HVM partner on the other hand, is my greatest supporter to date. We celebrate each other's successes equally and push each other to take on new work challenges. …

I second the list. Writing it out can be very painful but it is effective. If you are having trouble remembering situations (due to the scale of the abuse), write down the feeling you felt. This reads like a proud mother talking about her son, not a partner talking about their significant other. bet she makes him little triangle sandwiches too and he drinks his beer from a sippy cup. 'I'm a cool mum, and not like all the other mums.' So whack.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy08/07/20 10:10 PM

He sounds super boring and shitty. Going by the texts, he's the kind of boy that expects someone to do all the work, and that would eventually extend into a mother type dynamic with his dates. Good call on ghosting.

I've been in your exact position. The first relationship I jumped into after my abusive ex was with a generally nice guy. Unfortunately I still had a lot of work to do on myself and it didn't work out, not because I messed it up, but because I realised that I needed to rediscover my passion. Also some of his 'niceness' was insincere and manipulative because he knew I was out of his league, but I was 'wounded'. Girl, you need to snap out of it. Re-read what you just wrote. He's bad news and it's not up to you to fix someone's issues and motivate them. HVM do the work themselves because they already have those qualities. Cut the cord. Also domestic abuse records?!? No.

Yes to this! I've been sick in bed for two days and my bf has been taking care of me with such care and love. In the past, my ex would forbid me to be sick or show any negative emotion as it brought down his mood. He never showed any consideration for my well-being, but expected 110% for his. This is important for all women to realise. Any woman who has been disrespected by a man needs to respond with either cutting off his access to her, or limiting it significantly depending on the act. That being said, if you have to question whether you are being respected, you aren't and he isn't worth your time. Life is too short to put up with bullshit.
