Hey queens, I'm looking for personal experiences and opinions on this topic. I personally know of a few couples who have met this way and made it work, however I am naturally cynical of the underlying dynamic of international couples and visas.

My friend has known a man for a few weeks who is from another country, and suddenly they are in love and considering moving together. He needs a visa to stay and he doesn't want to go home to his own country which is economically and politically not great. He's lovebombing her hard and she is completely smitten. While I have tried to discuss this with her she will not listen. It is completely out of character for her, and I have never seen her like this in a relationship, she usually has strong boundaries, gets to know men slowly and cuts them off at the whiff of any bullshit.

Ironically, I'm also lightly dating a man from another country, whose visa is running out soon and will also be returning to his country. He's mentioned coming back mid year and securing another visa, but I have already decided that I will not be leaving emotional space for him and will not wait for him. He's great but he can do that for himself. I'm open to reconnecting later but I will not do long distance or any legwork or get emotionally invested. I'm also dating other men and keeping my options open to other connections.

So, how often does this visa-love dynamic happen? Should we avoid these international relations as they come with this condition?
