You already asked this exact question a while back, and received extensive answers. Didn’t they satisfy you enough ? I’ll answer again anyway. Bullshit. Materialistic egoistic people do that. Boys and girls alike. They decide that investing in an uncertain relationship is not worth it when other better options are available. Potential is a difficult thing to compute, so instead of a risk-reward gamble, they settle for more certain and satisfying enough deals. Helping someone bloom can create ada…

Well, okay, that’s an interesting point. I actually don’t think that a « rational » motivator exists. Motivation has rational components, but also irrational ones, and the two are often tightly knitted and interlocked. For instance, to keep your exemple going, there are actually rational reasons to pursue wealth, like improving your quality of life, relieving yourself from material strain, being able to take a step back from life when needed to reevaluate situations or just deal with some shit h…

I don’t really see a difference between biological urge and psychological motivation. Psychology is ultimately a biological phenomenon, and biological urge can also be framed as a psychological experience of self. So, to me, it’s more like two antagonist motivations -one being a non-motivation, so to speak, or a motivation to not do something- clashing, and one ending up with the upper hand. Now, conflict urges for resolution, sure, but also, maybe not ?

Truth be told, there’s is exactly 0 problem in not seeking romantic relationships if the motivation isn’t there. It should be an overall fulfilling endeavour, not a burden. I definitely wouldn’t recommend Nofap. If you’re happy with your relationships and masturbation habits, there’s nothing to change.

Deny them any attention. I know it can be tough and hurtful, and the urge to respond/retaliate might be strong but the best answer overall is attention denial. It gets easier with time, I promise.

Well, PUA/TRP has a 1-3% average hit rate, while being based upon pseudo-science -which has its own extreme downsides like increasing the probability you’ll reject actual medical treatment- and turning you into a narcissistic asshole that anyone half balanced will reject to oblivion. You do you man, but I kindly suggest you to try to see the dating thing for yourself for a few more years before doing anything that drastic with such a low success rate. Many people have a better hit rate without a…

Habits are... complicated things. To put it simply, the human mind often has difficulty to break patterns of behaviour, and is as often willing to pay a hefty price in terms of sanity and rationality to upkeep them. The best method for habits breaking is two fold : visual modelling and schedules. Start by thinking about the very behaviours that you want to change. Be the most specific possible. Than, try to put organisational or physical restraints on you to avoid doing your current behaviour. I…

I agree with you, and to be honest, as a man, I’m not telling you all of this with a hundred percent confidence and serenity. However, I think it’s worth keeping in mind that deescalation of privilege is a tough ride for everyone, especially the least aware of the folks around. And while I’m glad you came up and said « that’s not good enough », I also think that some acknowledgment and recognition should be thrown in the mix to encourage growth. You’re hilarious for coming here claiming busted 80/20 bullshit after reading this paper. I’m just making sure you have no straw man argument to hide behind when we’re done busting.

Okay, the 80/20 rule is obviously blatantly busted, but I’m gonna play Devil’s advocate nonetheless. It doesn’t change the fact that for the 18-24 group, men’s reduction over 20 years is more than 2 folds women’s. How would you explain this ? Is it even significant ?

-shrug- That’s why I kinda like some aspects of FDS vetting process. It’s like full rationalised manual-control during courtship to select a balanced partner, and then full auto-pilot to have an emotionally fulfilling relationship. That’s not a perfect answer, but it at least acknowledges the dichotomy in theory -in praxis it seems more like transactional dark triad all the way-. Common sense and emotional intelligence maybe. Like, having a sense of when to think transactional and when not. Mayb…

Except that sometimes, the computation is beyond us, and trying to do it sinks the ship. When your best-friend calls you up at 2AM crying miserably, the conscious cost/benefit ratio of spending 2H of sleep time to support him might seem like the worst deal in the history of deals. Yet, empathy tells you to do it nonetheless, and reciprocity bias will help with making your investment worth it in the end. Difficult to rationalise and compute, yet the foundation of civilisation -overly simplified o…

It’s still transactional to me, in the broader sense of the term. It’s a cost/benefit ratio, a rationalised approach to relationships to some degree, whatever you wanna call it. And it’s not bad in my mind, that’s the whole point. We all do it some degree. Transactional sounds like dark triad stuff. Yet it’s the foundation of liberal politics, « the American dream ». And it has its benefits, when done mindfully. I think we’ll have come a long way when we’ll be able to acknowledge that - Transact…

I mean, you’re preaching to the choir here. The real issue to me is our... weird representation and relationship with egoism. I mean, we both, at the same time, make it a core value of our culture and economical system, AND turn the head and speak extremely critically against any attempt to frame relationships as transactional. It’s either full fledged Hobbesian Homo-lupus, or son of Jesus our lord and saviour, but also both at the same time. And god forbid mentioning utilitarism, that shit’s na…

Okay, confession time. Even if I am pretty feminist nowadays, I still have a bitter-soft spot for The Manipulated Man. Don’t get me wrong, it’s awfully framed and misogynistic. But the behaviours and relationship patterns described in the book relate so much to some things I saw around, and that wounded me, that I just can’t dismiss it completely as hokum sexist rambling. The relationship dynamic it describes is, I realise now, neither generalised nor even widespread. But every now and then, you…

There’s no need to apologise for misquoting man, everyone misquotes sometimes. This is not the problem. The problem is paranoia and irrefutability. Noting that the quote is from a Neo-Nazi is just for heuristic purposes. Reputation is a social mechanism allowing swifter decision making in case of doubt, and deeper certainty otherwise. Pinpointing the paranoia inducing component, and irrefutability of the logic would be enough, but adding a layer of repulsiveness through association with commonly…

It’s wild bullshit. Beauty standards are cultural constructs, and culture is an ever changing thing. Some of it is biological rooted, like appraisal for symmetry, but RP’s biological dismorphist point is, as usual, busted. Same goes for the whole sexual market value thing. I don’t mind modelling dating as a market, it can be useful, but one has to keep in mind that the criterion vary A LOT per individuals, as well as over time through cultural shifts, so any biological essential definition of th…

Nutrition can go a long when it comes to physical form. I agree with Inareskai, going to the gym is god fucking awful, expensive and numbing, so effective nutrition is my main way to regulate. Meat and processed food can also get pretty expensive, while seasonal vegetables are usually pretty affordable, so it might even help with keeping it within a tight budget. Spices, variation and proper cooking technic really do wonders. Note that not caring about physical form is also perfectly acceptable,…

TL;DR : people can’t only rely on mocking people to get a laugh anymore, so progressivism is oppressive to men as locker room trash talk is their only mode of humorous expression. Ergo, progressivism is misandrist. No, it doesn’t ring true, at least to me. It’s too weak of an argument, opening the door to paranoia, confirmation bias and irrefutability. I’m more in line with Popperian arguments about the tolerance paradox, such that tolerance should be saved for tolerant people. Ties to Levi Strauss’ « The barbarian is the one whom believes in Barbary », in some way.

I feel like it helps because I’m not sure we’re done helping it. But you’re right, that’s probably not something for us to discuss at this point. And yeah, okay, I see your point there. I’ve been fairly too optimistic about shifting the framing. Tbh, the context to me somewhat matters here. This is exredpill, not /feminism. Okay, I almost completely agree with your two points. Those are indeed overblown generalisations that are still in a manichean paradigm. However, please note that I used the word socialised. I think it is true that gender stereotyping, on its way to be dismantled but still rocking to some degree, make women more likely than men to engage in proactive emotional damage mitigating behaviours. Is it the only reason they won’t date someone ? No. Is it fair to reduce the dating dynamic to those behavi…

Your remark is valid. However, isn’t it a common feminist point that women are generally socialised to be more emotionally aware and conscious, and to provide emotional labour more generously ? And that men feel like they are entitled to sex and relationships to the point of abuse when they can’t get them ? Isn’t OP’s proposition, naive and poorly framed per se but nonetheless, a practical application of those observations to dating interactions ? What I read in this post is that women empowerme…

Men clothing is actually fairly varied if you dig a lil bit. There’s dozens of cool styles to experiment with. Techware, workwear, urban, preppy, normcore, dark, scene, punk, and that’s just from the top of my head. Fashion requires some dedication tho, especially when dealing with exotic stuff. Men’s fashion is also fairly expensive when going apart from the usual casual chic or sportswear, as the market is quite small. Tho it’s actually in line with good quality women’s fashion.

I think the goldest thing I red to this day is a PUA guru field report, I don’t remember which. There was a lovely study about hypergamy the other day around here. Bottom line : yes, women tend to marry up, nothing about other types of relationships, but it’s not very prominent, and virtually disappears at both end and on the lower half of the spectrum. Women’s income is also a wider debate that makes this subject very... intricate.

With relationships, compared to women ? Basically until the second half of the 20th century. I think we men are used to having it easy, when it comes to relationships. We built a society for our benefit, at the detriment of others, and now those others can organise and flip the script on its head. Of course it was easier to find love when marriage were arranged and attraction was an afterthought. Now we actually have to stop being irresponsible, and act like actual valuable partners. Biology is hard to stop, yes, but you definitely won’t stop it if you don’t try. Social proofing is a thing, conditioning is a thing, neuro plasticity is a thing, reflective behaviour is a thing. Beside, it’s less a matter of if, and more a matter of how and how much. Yes. A hundred percent. I revel in the idea of becoming exalted. Although of course it’s not that simple. Isn’t there an improv club at your uni, or in your neighbourhood ? Improv mindset is learned everywhere. It’s about being here, in the moment, observing, listening, saying yes. Jordan Peterson is a fucking joke among his peers. The dude’s Ph.D is about neurological effect of alcohol, that’s the only research subject he tackled at Harvard. His credential in clinical psychology among peers is very weak, considering his fondness for obsolete paradigms like Jungian and Freudian psychoanalysis, or Nietzschean existentialism. No decent clinician works upon those theoretical basis nowadays. The answer you’re looking for is politics. It’s purely and simply politics, fighting f…

You’re right. Ultimately it’s a number game. Social skills and intelligence can help with reducing the numbers, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s a number game. And hopefully imo. How are we supposed to know what we like or not if we don’t try stuff out ? I’d rather have my heart shattered a thousand times and use each time to sharpen my standards than living a craft paper version of a relationship from the first time that actually doesn’t really fit me.

Are you sure you’re not just slinging bad science, evopsych non-sense and skewed statistics around ? Because a lot of what I saw non-voted to oblivion or moderated there falls into either of this category. Of course you could tell that those are perfectly valid arguments, and we’ll have to end this on a disagreement, at least for now.

I don’t know exactly where I stand either tbh, even tho I’m definitely pro-choice as well. Unfortunately, as a man, I found this particular conversation very difficult to be had. The sexism allegation is often quite swift to happen. I definitely think it’s possible. I also definitely think I won’t be able to find those words. And I think it’s a systemic shame considering the sheer importance of the question. I guess I’ll have to try anyway.

To be super fully honest, I completely agree with you, but I’d like to see what AskFeminist would have to say about this situation. Well, this sounds awkwardly close to « what we need right now is a good old war », or TRPs rhetoric about strong men building peace, which creates weak men, which turn peace into mayhem. I don’t think it’s an enlightened reading of societal shifts. Maybe old-school mandatory military training would help isolated people with socialising, getting in physical shape and in touch with reality, but it can also be fairly mentally damaging to some, especially the most vulnerable, and I’m not sure that w…

His opinion of women, like every man's, is an objectification of his own emotion towards them, which is obviously one of fear. "Forget not thy whip"-- but nine women out of ten would get the whip away from him, and he knew it, so he kept away from women, and soothed his wounded vanity with unkind remarks. I think there’s a fine balance to find between being perfectly spontaneous and completely holding back everything. The way I see it is that, you have core values, feelings and interests, and it’s mandatory to not conceal those and put on a fake character. I don’t really care what the big names actually say to be fair. They might not preach for it out loud, but if you’re at an arm length to extrapolate or deduce something from their ideology, to me that’s still on you. Your coaching program, your dodgy science with loopholes, your mess.

That would involve not being caught in the many traps it lays upon you to not leave, which is not a given. I’d say yes to some PUA, even if it makes you shithead for some time, but TRP has cult-like trapping structures and definitely shouldn’t be approached mindlessly, too predatory. Beside, it promotes insanely more dangerous behaviour for women, basically idealising rape as an ideal sexual practice that women secretly enjoy so... there’s a limit to shitheadness I can even reluctantly agree to.

I think human nature is a difficult thing to fathom, and ultimately adapts a lot to the situation it’s thrown into. Take a look at European beauty standards across history, especially French ones. At some point during the Renaissance, cadaver-grade pale extremely overweight was the golden standard of women’s beauty, and skinny tanned girls were seen as distasteful. Yet our brains effectively didn’t evolve between then and Monroe. So I think that we definitely should not talk in absolutes, and ev…

You educate yourself about social psychology, influence effects, social proofing, icing effect, fallacies and so on. Then, as you’d do for any deep seated belief, you start thinking about it regularly. See what triggers your desire, try to understand why you desire that, how you got to desire it. It’s not cookie cutter, it’s you vs centuries of culture, thousand of hours of exposure to subtle cues and dogmas, of people living and breathing for a relationship, thinking it’s the ultimate goal, amo…

Scientific debunks are everywhere, you clearly didn’t give a close enough look. Scientific debunking is also not always about breaking a specific paper, but explaining methodological rules that break whole arrays of papers and fallacies. Did you consider that ?

Well, I never said that so you’re not actually agreeing with me. Liberating oneself doesn’t imply being single. The subsequent lack of counter argument only makes my point more eloquent. Do what the fuck pleases you, and don’t let anyone tell you what that should be. Biology will do the rest.

Yup, not arguing against that. Reduce social pressure, connect to your self-determined desires, that’s all I’m saying. Have fun playing DOOM, the guitar, reading books or anything else if that’s your jam.

I feel like you’re kinda missing the point here. While I agree that we are social creatures, and that being around people including people of different genders than ours generally feels good and fulfilling, I think there also is a part of societal pressure and enforcement in this matter. I think it’s important to liberate, or at least tend to liberate, oneself from those socially enforced norms in order to be able to « reconnect » to their primal needs. In many cases, societal pressure can warp …

Okay. We actually observe behavioural differences between genders when looking on a societal scale. This differences include many things, from job preferences to hobbies to assertiveness to emotional intelligence, and the list goes on. Here’s the thing tho. First those differences vary widely on how much wide spread they are. Job preferences for exemple, see very male (STEM) or female (child care) dominated fields, while let’s say visuo-spatial intelligence only vary slightly on average between …

This is absolutely based, really the basis of modern epistemology. However, it's a bit more complex than that and I think it's important to explain further Confirming an hypothesis doesn't really make a theory valid, only valid so far. There's always proving to be done. Everytime an hypothesis predicts the outcome of an experiment increases the credential we can give to the theory, but never does it make the theory valid. Furthermore, the same hypothesis can come from vastly different theories, …

Learn to set boundaries, on your own terms. Define things you don’t and won’t accept in a relationship. I think this should be one of the first steps, beside actively dating. You are valuable, your emotional well being matters, and you’re legitimate in enforcing it. So, boundaries. If you don’t feel confortable around someone, you can leave. If someone hurts you, you can leave. If someone doesn’t reciprocate your attention and care, you can leave.

They actually do, sadly, but on a vastly different scale than what they clame. Friendzone is a thing, orbiting is a thing, manipulative, opportunistic, predatory people from both genders are a thing, but only a marginal thing. That can be the tricky part of getting out of TRP for some. If there are a lot of gold diggers and pseudo/proto-FDSers around you, and you want to date, TRP theories will appear valid, and you’re gonna get dreaded and abused unless you either GTFO or dread first. I think we definitely agree on the principle. To be very thorough, I think that my problem lies with identifying oneself as an humanist, rather than being one. I feel that way you identify yourself may have an effect on the way you frame issues and the world and that humanism might, for exemple, make it more difficult to see people as irredeemable. But really, I have nothing to back that up, that’s just how I go. Between identifying as a humanist or a feminist, I say feminist because what I’m re…

Please keep in mind that it is just my opinion. I often feel like general humanism, as a universal care and concern for humans, may sometimes impede one’s ability to make tough decisions, like isolating a toxic individual or allocating ressources to people effectively. That’s why I think it’s often better, if someone wants to actively participate in humanist projects, that they focuses themselves on one or few specific issues or populations. They therefor effectively become activists of said spe…

Well, I thought the point was less about it being devoid of its original intent, and more about the usage made by TRP being idiotic, as ignoring a lot of things from the original material and basically making a new interpretation with the same metaphorical objects out of basically thin air. I took a gender studies class in college. It was interesting because every single day, we learned something new about what gender roles people are assigned to and how such standards are under our noses the whole time and we didn't even notice. People don't wake up to it, because it is so commonplace. I wouldn't call everyone a loser for not noticing it, because gender norms aren't supposed to be noticed or questioned. Thank you for taking time to discuss this with me despite my poor choice of word. When I’m thinking about this « pills », I’m not thinking about their specific effect to be honest. As many people mentioned here and elsewhere, TRP is first and foremost a source of empowerment. Like a cult really. Okay. I didn’t knew they said that. I however have a hard time understanding why the metaphor isn’t applicable to other forms of normativism in a post-modern logic but I’ll look into that. Okay. I see the problem. To me, there actually is no « blue pill ». There’s the doxa, the mainstream culture. You don’t take a pill to realise it because you are born within it. You live your life like it’s nothing until someone comes in and gives you a pill. Suddenly, you gain access to arcane knowledge about how the world « really works », and how to bend it to your will. What I consider to be « Blue Pill Philosophy » is heteronormativism, cisnormativism, essentialism, traditional family values, patriarcho-capitalistic culture especially on the subjects of subordination, production of value, valuation of self and dehumanisation of people, systemic denial of men’s mental health iss…

I’m thinking about TBP as the concept in TRP discussions, like the pill you’d take from Morpheus. The doxa, sort of. The thing TRP educates you out of. r/thebluepill definitely has little to do with that, as it is a satirical sub as you said, tho I arguably sometimes see glimpses of this there.

So, I don’t know for sure but here’s my pet theory about that. I see strong ties between our capitalistic culture and RP theories. I feel like RP is something like capitalism gamified, using a cynical, absolutist vision of humans as constantly acting against each other fighting for survival to optimise the retrieval of the reward gated behind the system : the sweet neurotransmitters released during sex. That’s a pattern historically observed in what some people would describe as « the capitalist…

There are multiple place to start. The common denominator is « Socialise ». Non-romantically socialise. Be talkative, open-minded, try meeting different people, to get a feeling of they are, who you like and who you don’t. Don’t afraid of stereotyping, but be ready to update your stereotypes when they fail you, they always do. I think the key here is to build your character, almost in a pen&paper RPG style. Please don’t extrapolate tho. The goal is healthy doesn’t mean it’s the only goal, or that it should be pursued at any cost. I just think it’s a more interesting paradigm to work with than « healthy ». I love existential philosophy, yet if you asked people what they think about Camus, they’ll tell you he’s a broken man gazing into the cosmic void of meaninglessness, and that it’s unhealthy to read his work. Yet it makes me feel good, and didn’t turned me into a prick. Nuance goes a long way.

/r/ExRedPill18/09/20 07:37 AM

Eh. What isn’t ? If everyone is aware and consenting. Healthy is ultimately normative. Plus I can see situations in which it can be consensually seen as healthy, like viewing inexperience as a white canvas to be painted in your favorite colours. That does sound pretty healthy to me.

Theoretically, you could say that « initiating » someone with all that encompasses in terms of power dynamics can be a form of reward on and off itself. On the other, human beings have pro-social behavioural patterns that tend to give value to reciprocity, generosity and cooperation.
