As a long time fan of video games, I hope I can speak for every true fan, I say that this whole Social Justice crap needs to stay the fuck out of video games. Basically, people who just got into gaming, now demand that games cater to their political agenda.

And especially companies like EA/Bioware are incredibly deploreable because they pander hardcore to that SJW crowd only to make more money. Yet they depict themselves as super progressive, tolerant philantropists.

This is normal of Slashdot's typical response to articles on the issue of gender in technology. Whenever "Is technology sexist against women?" comes up the comment section on Slashdot is about the same, filled with folks who (like us) realize the social justice bullshit for what it is: A way for corporations to make more money by shaming and devaluing their workers.

Seriously, all these "Teach girls to code!" campaigns are the same ones bitching about not having enough STEM workers, which is bullshit. They're trying to do anything they can to get more H1B visas, even if it means pretend to comply with listing job regulations and being overly critical of applicants so they can cry out, "We don't have enough tech experienced workers, we need more lower paid H1B employees!"

In other words: It's old hat to slashdot; Tech has been in the thick of the SJW bullshit for decades now.

In the gaming market you have kids now making games who don't remember the 90's where we fought against prevailing puritanical political correctness just to keep our gore and blood in graphics. When publishers cite market research and proclaim, "You can't have a predominantly female protagonist for this game" it's about money, not sexism, but these college indoctrinated fools have quote mined such sentiments to build their false case for persecution. Studios are always in a perpetual war with publishers for artistic license, so I wouldn't read too much into Bioware's bullshit. They've found they can market to the SJW crowd like politicians and media has before them -- but games have been through this shit before, we know how the PC censorship war ends.

When asked why my war games have only males fighting and dying on the front lines I tell them it's to honor my friends and family members both alive and dead due to the men who sacrifice themselves fighting wars. It would be dishonorable to my enlisted friends to portray the reality of their situation any differently. Someone accused me of misogyny because of this stance. I pointed out that it was impossible for them to draw a conclusion about my alleged hatred of women from my portrayal of men dying in war, and further that I am an artist: "Schindler's List isn't anti-semetic, and Silence of the Lambs doesn't promote cannibalism. Artists are free to explore without becoming that which they study, so you'll have to do better than call me names to prove your claim."

Similar sentiments are becoming a popular defense to accusation of sexism among developers. I'm not afraid of the game industry becoming too politically correct. The support they win by doing so becomes their undoing. That's why the "no blood" version of Mortal Kombat which Walmart sold cost them tons of sales. They merchants and publishers know what's up, they wised up in the 90's.

Bioware is bitching because the market research shows the expense of adding females to war roles in games isn't warranted -- Women don't care if they play as men or women, and most guys desire playing male avatars.

The only argument I agree with is that we shouldn't let money or politics needlessly limit the artistic direction of games. I don't want to hear: Sorry, we're cutting [level, vehicle, mechanic, etc] because we need more space for female soldiers textures, voices, etc. ONLY due to gender politics. I'm not against women in games at all, but letting politics have an influence on games is bullshit. If Bioware wants to do something fine, let Bioware do that, don't use the GDC as a platform for cultural marxism and try normalizing the social justice opinion across all game devs. First off: It won't work and unruly independents will kick your ass monetarily by selling what people want. Secondly we indie devs are always on the cutting edge. There is no technical, graphical or cultural front that we indies didn't explore first -- Even rendering: Most every important feature attributed to Carmack's engines [including doom and quake] were first demonstrated in the audio-graphical computer art of the demoscene. The SJW bullshit has already largely boiled over among indie gamedevs.

The thing is: We're all nerds! There was never a problem of sexism among developers. We've never had a problem of giving human rights to machines and making horrific aliens into love interests. The sci-fi loving nerds are so far ahead on the "Sentient Rights & Equality" front that issues of mere gender and skin color seem boring and trivial, some small minded and primitive concepts.

Just imagine it: We're hanging out online, discussing, exploring and MODELING the galactic ethical standards of Gods with minds the size of planets interacting with all manner of lesser creatures in the cosmos -- Essentially creating philosophy to deal with troubles that won't be addressed by "real philosophers" for hundreds or thousands of years... Then some one pipes up "But! Women should be equal!" and we all just laugh.

I heard one indie gamedev say that the current gender war BS is a necessary overreaction that any species will exhibit when coming to grips with the reality of its bloody evolution into sentience. The overreaction required to put a limit on acceptable concern, much in the same way people do when they learn their favorite food had a family.

The Kid Friendly "E for Everyone" games don't compete against the "M" rated multi-million dollar monstrosities, the "PC for Everyone" games will be met with the same lack of sales. These SJW folks don't realize that once you give the censors an inch, they take a mile. I'd love someone to make a 100% Female FPS with blood and gore, just like COD or Quake, if only to watch how quickly it gets labeled a misogynistic murder simulator.

This is what was said in private between indie devs about the "vile comments" of online gamer culture:

Apparently, the fools who think this is not acceptable don't remember the things they said as school children. Now they have become adults with idolized notions of what acceptable language is, and are being exposed to the language children use amongst themselves. I find it disheartening that some adults would espouse censorship rather than exercise their own memory and gain acceptance of reality: Humans are not nice creatures. If they were our games would not be so bloody.

We went on to discuss the tolerance parents of most species have towards the biting and clawing and outbursts of their young, and the implication of this WRT online banter. We concluded that social interaction naturally happens in close proximity, and that removing the physical form of the individuals, esp. the young, and removing the ability to physically threaten each other, and replacing the avatar of the young with grizzled war-hardened adults is responsible for producing the phenomena of online vitriol. This advent of the Information Age whereby children can interact on adult levels should be encouraged and celebrated as a great leap forward in our development as a species, certainly not censored.

It's a shame, but the reality is that gamers and game journalists and the AAA gaming media are all thinking at a far lower level than nearly every indie developer I associate with. The pop-culture dialog is between primitive reactionary beasts in comparison to that of culture's creators -- If you think me labeling them such means I look down on them, then you are being primitive too.
